My cleyeras are covered in black spots, the leaves are turning yellow and drooping. I'm new to them and need lots of help! What do I do? A lot of them were planted around our house and I really don't want to replace them if I can help it. I'm outside Charlotte and the soil is yellow clay.
dying cleyeras
Cleyera preder at least part shade and acid soil. Is that the conditions they are in?
Are they cleyeras or photinia/red-tip? Photinias are prone to a fungal disease which kills the plant. (Just mentioning that because some people confuse the two.) But I think cleyeras are fairly disease-resistant. Make sure they are not too dry or too wet. Too dry is more likely unless you've been watering - it's been very dry in most of central NC.
