I've been expanding my shade bed and need a bunch more sweet woodruff (Asperula Odorata) to fill in the ground cover. I'm pretty lean on plants to trade, but I'd be happy to send postage.
Thanks in advance!
CLOSED: Sweet Woodruff needed for postage
If you take the sweet woodruff that you already have, and pull it apart into individual stems with roots (you should be able to get tons even with a very small clump) and replant each stem spaced a few inches apart you will have a thick carpet within a couple of months. I purchased one 4" container last fall and divided it this way. It now thickly covers large areas in four different flower beds.
Unfortunatley, I've already divided the heck out what I have and am far short of having enough to cover the area I need to fill in. I only have a small patch now and have a much larger area to cover. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

I have a hill covered in it . If I pull it by hand a small amount of root is attached, will that grow for you ? I have a senior graduating Sat ,and My tomatoes are still in buckets. Really want to help just don't have time to dig large amount . Cinda
LOL - Been there. My DD graduated last year. I know the hectic pace you must be running at.
Lets hope someone who has a little more time will pop in to volunteer.
I have some i decided to remove as it is filling in too much. I will send you a flat rate box full if you send me the psotage.

Oooh, Aline, will you send me some too? I already got a trade of it this spring but it got here on a hot day and was already pretty tired when it arrived, and then I neglected it. (It's dead.) But if you send me some, I will give it head massages when it's tired, I will rub its feet, I will give it hot showers and three square meals a day.
Thanks so much. Can you use any coreopsis 'moonbeam'?
xxxx, Carrie
D-mail me with your address and send me postage for flat rate box and I will send you a box full.
With the holiday I would wait to mail out monday June 4th.
I don't need any Coreopsis. I have several types.
What I really want is gasplant.

ROFL at Carrie's version of TLC for travel-weary plants. I wanted to thank willmet for the suggestion on "stretching" a clump of sweet woodruff to cover more ground... I've got some started at one end of my daff/DL bed, and it's doing nicely, but I want to try to fill in the rest of the bed with it. I'll propagate a couple flats of "plugs" from single stems, and that should do the trick!
Critter -- I have plenty -- I'll bring a flat to the swap for you.
my experiences with sweet woodriff is that will self seed with great abandon..... mine has crawled the length of one bed, hopped over to the next and has the veggie garden in it's sights........
will save seeds if anyone wants!
let me know.....
Thanks, Happy, you'll a doll! I didn't want to ask you for some, because I know some other folks wanted it too (and didn't have any to start with). :-) No need to pot it up nicely, just dig it and toss it into a bag, and I'll be sweet to it when I get it home.
The sweet woodruff can spread all it wants; I love it. The area where it is now will (hopefully) someday be too shaded by the maple trees (now babies) for grass to grow, and my hope it that the sweet woodruff will provide ground cover for that whole area by that time. :-)
Critter,
Norway maples selfseed rampantly and have just been declared an invasive weed in Massachusetts. I hope that's not the kind you have.... they have a shallow root system, which is why nothing will grow.
your friendly harbinger of doom,
xxx Carrie
Carrie, I planted a red maple from a local nursery and a couple of "swamp maples" from my mom's backyard... I don't expect grass to grow under them when they mature, but I don't think they're invasive weeds either. :-)
They are one of my biggest weeds...but I would never cut down the two mature trees I have on my property. So I just put up with pulling hundreds (maybe thousands) of maple seedlings in the spring.
I've been off DG for several days.
Aline: You've got d-mail!
Thanks!
I would also love to have some Sweet Woodruff for postage. I have a new shade large bed that I would love to have this in. Someone was supposed to send me some recently and they sent everything but this one, Boo Hoo!!!
Just let me know and I will get it right out to you.
Sharon
I'd be glad to send anyone some as I am cleaning it out and it is in very good soil that I will send along.
I am just getting back to normal from the long weekend. I plan to send it out next monday June 4th in a flat rate box.
Aline
Sounds great! I'll get a check on it's way.
Thanks so much!
Stacy
