I need a butterfly net!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi all -- Where can I find a butterfly net for a reasonable cost? I used to see them locally -- all kinds of places, even toy stores. I noticed about 7 years ago that you can't find them any more. I needed them to catch some Narcuissus bulb fly for erradication.

I need it to try to get rid of some of these wasps. I have a boatlad, and what I'm seeing is them investigating the foliage and flowers of every single plant I have. They are very methodical, so I am sure they are egg eaters and cat killers. My thought is to use the net to grab them, and then step on them once they are in the net.

Or I could use Raid wasp killer, but somehow I was thinking that wasn't such a good idea.

Suzy!
I hear you!! The wasps devour everything. A friend of mine got me an electrical fly swatter! It's great! It looks like a small yellow tennis racquet but with a battery charge! I think she got it at Wal-Mart. I found the nets were hard to use and I was beating up my plants. I have seen them at my local Dollar General store, though. Goos Luck!

OMG! That is so funny! So you swat something and it gets zapped? How very, very useful! Hmmm, maybe I could use it on my dog when he wanders (on purpose) into the flower gardens. LOL!

I'll look at Wal-Mart.

Thanks,

Check the local dollar stores...I got one for a buck that I use on those big black carpenter bees...they make holes in the wood beams of my back porch!!! They also hog the nectaring plants. UGH!!!

Elsewise...guess you could get an old kitchen strainer or colander frame or wire clothes hanger and sew a section of panty hose around it and glue or tie it onto a bamboo pole.

I use my pond fish net, I have a little aquarium size and a big one with a long handle.

Excellent idea fly...just remembered seeing swimming pool nets...those have super long handles :o) but those aquarium ones would work perfectly. I don't like to kill the carpenter bees but they are so destructive!

I know Cat, I don't like killing anything.....I guess even wasps have a purpose, don't they? Other than to annoy us? Do birds eat them?

Edinburg, TX

Not sure what eats wasps...but the ranch dog eats honey bees!!! That dog is nuts.

Suzy,
I like Roxanne's long handled one better, LOL...

I got a bfly net for 4 bucks at WM in the toy section with the critter hunting kits etc,

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I went to Wal-Mart -- No critter hunting kits yet and they all laughed when I asked about an electric fly swatter. :)

Check in the pet food /fish supplies of WM, they have the small nets for aquariums. Need bigger, try Pets Mart in their pond section.

OMG, that is so funny! Takes 2 D batteries! That is a serious swatter, Adrienne. I will definitely buy it when HRH DD#2 gets back with my charge card. LOL!

Shiela, I could have found those at Wal-Mart in the fish dept -- I wasn't expecting something that little -- was expecting a 14" diameter hoop with some netting on it. Thanks, they probably would work for what I want, I just didn't think of them.
