We have been under siege for 3 days from a male towhee who is apparently convinced that he sees a rival in every window of our house. Right now he is slamming himself repeatedly against our high arched window in our entryway while his female friend watches contentedly from the ground. Is this normal mating behavior? If so, how long can I expect it to last? I've covered just about every window I can reach, but he still has plenty of glass to hit, including my car mirrors!
deranged towhee
I'd go to Walmart or HomeDepot and buy a cheap mirror...Stick it on a post with a perch,, and just sit back and get read for alot of laughs....

Hee hee! That would have been great. He did finally give up the fight, though, and either has moved on to someone else's house or he's happily nesting, having vanquished all his imaginary foes. I'm happy because he's finally not waking my toddler up at 6 am anymore.
Wish you could have gotten some pics - makes me laugh just to think about it!
Well, I spoke too soon... he's been back erratically. My hubby was watching him attack a window yesterday and threw my son's stuffed red cardinal at the other side of the window... that made him leave off for awhile. I wish I knew where they nest because I've seen the pair together near the feeder. I bet they have one somewhere close by.
Darn - get that camera ready!!!!
