Bought a hibiscus at a nursery here last fall. It was basically just a tall stick at the time with a couple leafs and one bloom. It looked pretty pitiful and it was on a fall sale. The tag just said "rose mallow" but I loved it cause of that one bloom. Anyway, the stick was really tall, probably 4 and a half feet when I bought it and the bloom was a dark red like the lord baltimore. Based on how tall it was when I got it, I assume it will be about 5-6 ft. tall this year. However, the leafs are shaped like marijuana almost and they are green with really dark red edges. Anyone know what kind of hibiscus this is or when it should be blooming here in zone 7b, NE of Atlanta? In looking thru other hibiscus pictures, it kind of does look like the lord baltimore except it is a darker red and the red edges on the leafs are different.
Hibiscus question/ ID help
Sounds like hardy hibiscus, probably a red Texas Star hibiscus
Hi ga_peach,
From your description, it could be a "Fireball" hardy hibiscus.
Take a look at this link and see if this is it...

I think the TX star has 5 separate petals to a bloom doesn't it? Dave, that looks exactly like it, thank you. I looks just like the one Mystic posted there with the darker red. I think you got it!
Glad I could help.
:~)
