I never see anyone post pictures of their Caladium. Perhaps it's not an exciting thing for most people but I LOVE Caladium so I guess it's not surprise that this is the first thing I've ever planted. And since it's my first planting, I'm tickled pink watching them bloom!
This first picture shows the early sprouts from 2 weeks ago. They started coming up after only 2 weeks in the ground.
MY BABIES.....
First thing I ever planted - Caladium
I orded the Mixed box from Happiness Farms and so far all I've got coming up are reds and pinks. I was hoping for some whites but I still have a lot of bulbs that haven't sprouted yet so I'm still hopeful.
At first I thought pink blooms were the reds and I thought the reds were purple. But I see now.
Here is some of the red....
Nice caladiums zeoplum. I like them too. Back in Louisiana, my mom used to plant them every year and store the bulbs over the winter so they kept getting bigger and bigger. I don't see caladiums much here in Califorina. I bought some bulbs mail-order earlier this year and I'm still waiting for them to sprout. We'll see how they like this weather.
nice job; i stopped planting mine in the ground here cause the ground here didn't get warm enuf till june or july....if i grow them in pots inside they will grow when i need them and i can get them out then:)
zeoplum,
The bloom is a seed pod the plant will produce. You can cut it off diagonally at the base with some sharp shears and the plant will re-direct it's energy to producing more leaves.
Nice looking plants you have there!

Really nice! Since you got mixed collection would think probably have some more white ones too and they really help set off the colors. The steppers in between to get to your outdoor faucet was excellent idea too.
Sticks_n_Stones-I have same situation where need to start bulbs inside and takes so long even doing it that way. I planted mine in house 6 weeks ago, Only around 70 degrees inside so taking long time for them to sprout. Most are finally peaking through and few have one leaf out so far. Put them outside during day whenever is warmer out and that has helped. I won't be able to plant out until sometime in June too but at least will get to enjoy them more of summer. As Bill pointed out in other postings, caladiums really like heat so T-Leaves I would think your location would be great but he is one that would be able to tell you for sure.
Bill,
Thank you for your answer. It was nice of you to answer even though I stated I had ordered from a different grower. You are a kind person.
And I'm glad to know what that is growing there. Will they all produce those seed pods? That's first time I've ever noticed something like that with Caladium.
Thanks,
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie,
Yes, for the most part all of the varieties will produce those pods. Some more then others.
Happiness Farms is one of the farms I deal with, there are 5 others that I can get bulbs from if I need to. Happiness does have some of the nicest though!! They're good people too..
If you ever have any questions about planting or caring for Caladiums, please do not hesitate to Dmail me.
Happy Gardening!
Bill
Bill, How do you think that caladiums should do in my area? I planted the bulbs under a tree since it gets pretty hot Jul-Sep. It has been cooler this year than usual so far. I'd like to add some really unusual varieties. Any suggestions?
Thanks Bill. Again, that is very kind of you.
By the way, are you a grower or a retailer (or both?)
TLeaves,
Caladiums will do great where you're at. What colors do you like?
biLL
Red and white in that location would be best. Something unusual?
