Interesting move Donna
Do keep us posted with Polyphemus life cycle photos - for poor deprived souls like me who haven't seen those down here...yet they are supposed to be in a couple of adjacent counties. I'd be rode hard and hung up wet by the local leps if I tried to bring in an unrecorded species here...bummer.

It will be a few weeks before I get them. He is waiting for them to lay their eggs. Said 1 to 8 weeks. Hope it isn't that long. I have only had one once and it was so beautiful
Yes, they are truly gorgeous and such huge moths!
Would love to raise cecropias, calletas or forbes silkmoths but only if they showed up in my yard. Am raising a single Io (autometris io) that I found on my wisteria.
My autometris io is in the cocoon stage and hidden in it's leaf nest. Have been in contact with a friend in Helotes who is instructing me on what to do if it turns out to be female. He's told me how to make her available for mating, the expected time frames, how to use a paper bag for her to oviposit etc. So much to do...kind of hope it's a male so all I have to do is photograph and release!!! Then part of me wants it to be female in the hopes that she'll attract males and I'll be able to photodoc the complete life cycle as well as share her fertilized ova with him.
Time will tell...

Those moths are Big, Beautiful, and Bold! Nice. Is this species of moth found in your region? I agree with Cat, I would be reluctant to bring in a species that is not already found in my area for numerous reasons.
Yeah...I need to move up north where ya'll get those gorgeous moths...ah but if I did that then I'd miss out on the 300 or so butterflies we get down here :o)
Do keep us posted. Would love to see eggs photos as well as the whole life cycle on here.

ps...dang...I keep checking out that website...so tempting!!!
I took a look just to see, but I didn'tunderstand the price -- $5.00 for somewhere between 5 to 25? I guessed it was $5.00 for 5, but you could buy up to 25. I was mostly curious if you had a guess on shipping costs.
We have them here already, so I wouldn't be bringing them into a place where they haven't previously been, but I have no business trying to raise anything until I start out with some of the swallowtails or something I have loads of and can easily find, y'know?
It is scary when they fly because you just see somehting big out of the corner of your eye, or a shadow overhead. Makes me duck every time!
Suzy
Becky & IIIoquin there would be no harm done as they are silk moths and do not feed. They mate, lay eggs, and die which is so sad for something so beautiful. He ask how many you want and say he will do his best to give you the # asked for. Some people may only want a few but piggies like me want all I can get lol
Donna,
They will be gorgeous looking moths indeed! I am looking forward to you photodoc postings :o)

Gosh Dave! That's a scary photo!
Good to see you !
