Wow Abbie, I love yours-just got 2 cuttings of King Midas. Any tips on getting them to bloom? This winter I kept them at 50 degrees and hardly watered in a dark room and now that they are getting watered regularly and are in the light, they still aren't budding! And I keep getting more!! feel a bit crazy till I see all the great blooms you have!

Maybe try holding back the water a bit;) Some of mine went about a month with no water and then began to bloom like crazy, they are mostly very well established though....I don't know how much light yours get, but sometimes extra light helps. if they are newly rooted then they may just not be ready to bloom until next season, you just never know sometimes - i think I owned about 40 different epis before I ever had one bloom of my own, its only got worse since (or better in my opinion, though it depends on who in my house your talking to!) - so if your crazy i don't know what i am...

=) I'll cross my fingers for you!

Beautiful pictures. I have a few just setting buds. Can't wait for flowers, NOTHING like yours though. Love the 'King Midas'

OOOOOH Abbie, I LOVE that King Midas! Sure wish my babies were big enough to take cuttings of to trade :) Maybe next year some of mine will be bigger and we could trade cuttings or something (trying to think what else is big enough to do cuttings) *lol* About the only thing big enough right now would be my Pagoda Lipstick plant if you're interested in that. I just did cuttings of it for fall trades and they are rooting already but there is plenty more to cut off if you'd like.

Oh, Abbie, thanks for your kind words and encouragement! So I have to get to 40 first???? I can do that!! I really reduced the watering this winter and they are definitely happy to be watered again (new growth). But it's too cold to put them out in better light and the only good indoor light is in the office in the barn and the orchids have taken over there. Talk about competition for resources. Sometimes this place is a lesson in ecosystems and evolution. Maybe I should invite biology classes from my school!!

Betty, i am sure they wil be beauties when they make it to bloom!

Kim, An absolutly stunning lipstick, I have never seen anything like it! i would love a small piece if you have some to spare, I must warn you though, despite the stunning flowers on some of my plants, King Midas is in terrible shape...if you send me a d-mail I will be sure to check it out for any cuttings I would deem healthy enough to trade/or just send you;)

& bajoom, I so wish it had stopped at fourty (not really though;) Inviting in the bio class seems a good idea, maybe if you wait to invite them until spring is over they will help you repot...an experiment in...say growth and development & nutrients? =) ICompetition for resources is a great way to put it, this is occuring regularly around hear as well - many of my epis have been banished to the upper branches of an old tree for space conservation until we sort out the (hopefully upcoming) greenhouse (though they don't seem to mind at all!)...

'Miss Escondido' Really neat buds that begin their blooms opening similar to a rose, a lot different from most of the epis with all the ruffles - and a stunning orange peach color;)

I just love the color and petal style on this one, it reminds me of chantilly lace (and a pretty face of course!)
