Root system

Indian Harbour Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

have some rather large cuttings of plumeria that I was thinking of planting close to my pool. There's the usual deck and then a rock river stone bed and then a narrow flower bed (mostly plumbago plants). I was going to put some foxtail palms in -- we dug four holes spaced along the deck side. But now I'm thinking of putting in the plumerias. This would be a good 7 feet away from the pool edge. Would this be OK with the plumeria roots ?

Plumeria's are trees and do end up with large root systems in time, but they are not aggressive and would not push up cement or anything like that. The root system will probably be as wide as the canopy eventually. I think they would look terrific near a pool and have seen pictures like that. They give the pool a very tropical appeal.

I think this would look beautiful and you don't need to worry about the roots.
You will have to accept that you will have blooms (not too awful!) and leaves in the pool.

I can deal with the leaves -- no problem - as they're large enough to scoop out - if they blow in. I doubt whether the canopy will reach that far. Thanks

You can always trim to keep it from reaching that far. Remember, these are tropical trees, and they grow especially big when planted in the ground in a warm climate. Here's a picture of one in Fort Lauderdale.

Hi Clare
Was that tree in Ft Lauderdale, by any chance? The house looks like it is from the block where my son used to live in the NW part of Ft.Laud . My daughter-in-law got cuttings from her neighbor and gave one to me. Here is the pink plumie. It bloomed two years ago, but not last year. It now has leaves but no inflo. I'm waiting patiently. It is such a beautiful color.
