Well heres little Happy feet, when he was a little fella .... just 2 months ago!
Heres an Update on the newbies!
This is the only Rooster , that happened to show up in my ALL hen brown egg layer assortment! LOL!!! Hes really handsome! So I have a trio now of speckled Sussex! They already have a new mommy waiting on them! I hated to give them up because they were so pretty! But the new mommy is now building a new home for them and she will take such great care of them!
I have a million pictures, but wont do that to you!!LOL!!!
Now how about how your babies are growing up! Show us your then and now , on your favs!!!
Such pretty chickens, Eufaula. Please post more pictures. I love looking at the pictures of everyone's chickens.
Wellll! We can certainly see where Happy Feet got his name. Very cute.
Purdy's hubby, "Uhggie Sang",and my 13 month old White Silkie " FlufferButt"!
Oh and yes that is "Rabbit"! He comes and goes at will! He has dug an intricate escape route now and you never know where he will be next! ( secretly ... I think we are fixing to see a few black and White and Brown "Wild " bunnies soon! He has fallen for a wild Jack rabbit doe that lives in the woods)
That is a gorgeous silkie hen. What kind is she?
Eufala, I just want to know which rooster gets to control the remote? LOL Isn't that always a man thing!?!?!
Okay dumb question for the day. If some of my "hens" are getting what I assume is a comb-bumps in a row above their beak, does that make them roosters??? Most of them are smooth up there but I'm starting to see that some are not! I really should look at some pictures.....
Your birds are beautiful and I love their names. I get such a kick out of hearing their names and your love for them is obvious. The kids have named several of ours but I'm not sure they are names that should stick with them. LOL
GooooooodMorning everyone!!!! It turned c-c-c-cold here last night! Went down to the 40's! I had to gather up all the babies and put them in brooder cages again. Needless to say , they are warm but... not happy! they were sulking this morning. They had already gotten used to their out side pen and didnt like their cramped quarters one bit! BUT..They are warm.....Have you ever tried to explain things to a kid????? LOL!!!!
Hey Halnik! Your little Happy Feet is adorable!!!! Now what breed is it? I hope it keeps those cute eye markings lke my Happy Feet did! Your Roo is gorgeous...er.. I mean.. Very Masculine, very Handsome!!!! Your Hens should be quite Happy!!!!
Good Morning BadSeed! Thank You! Well You would think that there would be a problem with all my Roo's ,but honestly, I only have problems with two! That Would be My Barred Rock "CockleLooLoo" and his new nemesis the young Buff O. " Buddy"! I got the upper hand though with their fighting. I put Buddy in the Yard and locked CockleLooLoo and his Harem of brown Egg layers in the Chicken coop and Yard! Now they just glare at each other through the fence!
The other Roos, Hmm, Let me see. I have One Light Brahma ,one Ameracauna, and one black White /Crested Polish, several Japanese ,all are babies or at least under 10 weeks, oops , also a speckled Sussex! They all greww up together and havent shown anything but baby play actions so far! No true male aggressions! Im hoping to have all the new pens for each Breed I plan to keep by the end of Summer! A lot of the Chicks will be going to new homes soon! I am still culling out the ones I dont plan to Breed! They will make great pet Chickens for others! The ones I keep will have to have certain Characteristics for the planned breeding I am going to be doing! I love certain colors and certain looks in my Japanese ,so the culling part is fun but I do get attached to all of them. Its hard sometimes to get them new homes. But I am particular who gets them!
the older males , Are already in their permanent homes and dont worry about the ocassional visit by "Buddy", looking in through the fence at their Harems! They just make a run at the fence to let him know that looking is all he can do!!! Poor ole Buddy!!!
Your Question about the Combs...Well I just wait until I know for sure! That can take a couple of weeks with some Breeds and a lot longer with others! Its a definite size thing!!! The Hens always have much smaller combs than the Roos and they develop slower!
I'm waiting with baited breath to see who is a roo and who is a hen in my little new flock. I want to breed some silkies. That is a pretty buff silkie you have there!
One of my adult silkies I won't sue for breeding becasue she has 6 toes on one foot! WOW! I'm so impressed with it, honestly.
So my guess is that one one of my "pullet" easter egg layers is really a roo, since she acts like it. We'll see. Other than that my guess is on two of my black silkies, Peeping TOm and Twinkletoes. I'll post pics soon.
I wish I lived close enough to get some of those pet chickens, Eu!! :)
My little Happy feet is from that rooster, who's a cross between a Harco Black roo and a RIR hen, and one of my assorted hens. I have a couple Columbian Rock, a Plymouth Barred Rock and a Harco Black for hens. I'm not sure which hen it's from-I lost track of which egg came from which box with all the shuffling around of the eggs that the chicks do in the incubator.
I've been thinking that my Happy Feet looks more like an other penguin from some other animated movie with a penguin that had the white eye brows, but I can't remember which movie it was. Any body else remember? If so, what was it's name?
