Here is a new little favorite, Tulipa orphanidea var.flava . Patti
more tulips
Patti, what's the one in the lower right hand corner? It's beautiful!
Chris
Patti, Here it is may 24 and my tulips are all but finished blooming. I only have a few fading blooms left and you still have unopened buds. I have avoided the late tulips because they seem to be the varieties that do not come back and I am always looking for the more "perennial" types. Do you do a lot of replanting of tulips every year? I am thinking I may have to set aside a few special spots where I can easily replant each year because right now is the time I have a lull in blooming in my garden and late tulips seem to be the answer, and based on your pictures, they also seem to be some of the most beautiful varieties.
Chris, I will tell you more next year, as these were planted last fall. I will be replanting more of many that I liked, as I think the return rate is poor regardless of the hype from the bulb vendors, except for the species tulips, which fortunately, I love. I did get 5 for 6 on a fringed tulip that I did not expect to return at all. Go figure. I planted my tulips last fall, as suggested by some more knowledgeable gardeners, deeper than normal. We will see if that helps with the return rate. Nantucket is a notoriously a cool spot come spring which prolongs the season. I still have 3 varieties of late narcissus to open yet plus lots still in their glory. Patti
my darwins and regulars are done now these are my last ones to bloom. they are named and i know some are veridaflora something, lol but i honestly can't remember their full names now. this is my first year for these all to bloom. i still have buds on some of them.

these are my favorites of all my tulips that came up. these are pink with white.
and a better pic of the yellow with pink that were to be like above just yellow and appricot so i don't know why they are different color and shape. they look more like a regular tulip to me. i was disapointed but they still are beautiful and a keeper.
you all have lovely pics!! i forgot to take pics of my parots as they were the first to bloom for me this year and i didn't think to take pics but there is always next year to share. thank you for posting pics ya got me hooked on some new kinds i'd like to add to mine, lol.

Silkiechick, I like that last pale yellow with the pink tinge against the textured wall with the little bit of blue. Very ethereal, nice photo. I have a patch of the green and white ones which I think are Viridiflora Tulip Deirdre, but I also planted next to them a tulip sold as 'Evergreen' which has yet to open. I will wait to confirm that they are 1. different and 2. I didn't confuse which was which. I planted them with a summer house guest who arrived years ago and never left. His name is Clarence. Patti
thanks, i like that one too those are the ones on the front. there is little blue or purple flowers there also, i don't know what they are it's wild. at first i thought violets but after looking close they look like blueish purple tiny snapdragons almost is what i thought. dh said looked more like the flower of a foxglove so i have no clue. i just took that pic today.
yes that is the name of mine and yours. i know it to hear or see it since they are ones i bought and planted last fall. i didn't get the chance to get the evergreens yet but i want them too. green is my favorite color so as soon as i get enough green stuff i want to do an all green or green/appricot bed. i just haven't had time to start it yet. i have daffs that are called misty glenn and have green centers i'd like to add in a bed with these. thought they would look great together.
here is a pic of my show of regular tulips that bloomed before these. forgive my needing to weed but it was a temp they are all moved now to a new bed and it's only part of the colors i have. i bought these on ebay as purple peony tulips, that they are not, lol.
Silkie, Great color combo, even if it wasn't totally planned. I am going to steal it for next year. I posted a picture today of a new primula for me this year called 'Green Lace' Take a look, you will die for it if you love green. I do too. I started a mess of green plants from seed. Zinnea 'envy', Aquilegia 'Green Apples' Aster chinensis ' Hulk '(though I think it has not made it) Viola x wittrockiana 'Envy ' plus some that I bought, Some greenish iris and the Gladiolus 'green star ' & Hemerocallis 'Lime Peel'. I don't remember any more at the moment. But I will post pictures if they are successful. Here is the tulip'The Artist' which are your colors. Patti
P.S. I have a chocolate bed as I am mad for brown blooms too.

rotfl, those were all sent mixed in shipping in a bag. i bought them last year on ebay as 80 purple peony perfection tulips. all i did was take them out and plant them. immagine my surprise to see these when they bloomed this year. i was mad and heart broken but i do love them although it wasn't what i thought i bought. my fav of those is the burgandy black ones i think there is one or 2 in that pic i can't tell on the little pic. so by all means the color combo was purely an accident on my part but i do really like it too.
oh, i want them, love them both!! for green i have the tulips, daffs, seeds for-the hulk aster, zinnia envy, a lime zinnia but not envy, jade sunflowers, lemon lime sunflowers, green nicotania, my green star glads i left out last winter i believe i killed them or they just aren't due to come up yet. i may have other things i'd have to look. i thought about doing a choc bed but i want it to be a wonka theme, lol. i want it to have unicorn rush and hair allium and quarky things along with brown blooms. after i hosted the wonka swap the kid's and i decided someday we will have a wonka garden, rotfl. it is my project for next spring :)
here is another of my tulips. i went out one day it was so hot they all flipped backwards couldn't find my cam. a few days later i found it and took this one i never saw them do it after that. was really neat to see thought ya might like to see it. i believe this is one of my white emporers not sure. it just looked as if they fell asleep relaxing in the sun i have never seen one do it before.
