the blob flies away

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4a)

A few days ago, I was walking with my Beardie Rosie around my local Lake Harriet, which has asphalt paths and lots of city activities. Rosie was walking out in front of me on the 17 ft. flexi leash, when we both spotted a blob on the path ahead. Rosie walked up to the blob and sniffed it, when it suddenly came to life as a tree swallow, and flew off, but looked a bit shaky in flight. We were both quite surprised, and at least I was pleased by the apparent happy ending. (To diverge a bit, I also have cockatiels at home, including 5 rescue birds, some of whom can't fly, so fortunately Rosie doesn't see birds as a snack.) I am guessing that somehow this bird was stunned, possibly by being hit by a car or bicycle. I have seen them stunned by hitting a window, and then apparently recover, but this was a first to see one come back to life after being downed from some other reason. I'll never know the ultimate outcome, but maybe it was just a splitting headache.

Love the happy ending!
