Question About Texas Star Hibiscus

Dothan, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me with my Texas Star....i started it from seed and have 10 plants about 3 inches tall, but they have been growing since March and its hot here so I thought they would be alot bigger by now.

I have 3 growing in 4 inch pots, and 7 in the ground...They all look the same height. Is it a real slow grower, or do I need to amend something to help them grow....

Thanks
Gail

They seem to grow very slow for awhile and then all at once they are 4-5 tall and growing.
I have them for about 4-5 years. Last year I moved the main plant and divided it. It just sulked the rest of the year. It is on it's way to Texas Stardom now. Mine got to around 7' and was blocking a lot of other things I did not want killed. Actually you have done it the hard way and had good results. I started with a plant at a yard sale.

Wow, I did not realize they would get that tall....I think I should replant them where they can be left alone and not dug up later....Do you think that they will be hardy here in Southern Alabama, almost to Florida state line in the Panhandle?
They are hardier than the other hibiscus???

Do they flower white??

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I hate to loose plants once I started them from seed...
Would you like one of my potted ones to replace the one in Texas Stardom????

Thanks
Gail

Mine have red blooms. They die completely to the ground here but come back every Spring to start all over again. Possibly will live all winter in your zone. The shape of the leaf causes a lot of comment. Although I have never seen it myself, I'm told that this plant looks exactly like marijuana. Couldn't prove it by me. It is one of my favorites. Wow just read my first post....need to do some proof reading.....I think much faster than I can get the words on the paper and it looks like I am partially illiterate. Thank you very much for the offer of the plant but it looks as though the insult of moving them last year is over. Two plants are rapidly catching up with their previous performance. Once established they have several "canes". It is not a bush but it gets bushey. Now that makes no sense.

I have been growing the texas star (red), for 5 Yrs. now, and they started out small, and had no flowers, until I moved them out in the sun, and put a rich bed under them. Now they grow about 7'. and every year they get thicker(more canes), and what a sight.AS to looking like "the left hand cigerette" they must, because sister bucket mouth next door had them checked out, buy the narcotics police. As said, "couldn't prove it by me", to bad it didn't bloom between the time she called, and they got here.
I grew from seed the white texas star, this Yr., but they are only about 3"-4", and I 'm debaiting on wheather to plant them in the prepaired bed, or keep them in pots, and plant in spring, open for advise. Mike

I have the texas star hibiscus growing and it seems to do very well in my zone.this is my first year so hopefully it overwinters here.I think the leaves look more like false aralia and i think its funny the neighbor lady called the cops about them!LOL I am wanting to know if it will flower this year.I hope so

The cops go by the shade of green, of the leaves, still, can't prove it by me.
I hope the hibiscus all bloom, this year, if so I'll take pics, but with the drought, I don't expect anything to break bud.I cut all my dried up buds off my peonies, its past time for them to bloom.
The texas star should die down in the fall, the canes will dry up, and stand there, but you should mulch them good, and you should see them next spring.Mike

Your peonie buds dried because of the drought....mine because of the monsoon season we are now experiencing.
