A week ago, I took a chance and bought two Datura, Devil's Trumpet, plants - I knew nothing about them other than they had a huge beautiful flower. Now that I have them, I found out on DG that every part of Datura is poisonous!! Does anyone know if they are poisonous to chickens!????? They'll eat anything!
:( Glenda
Help! Is Datura (Devil's Trumpet) poisonous to chickens?
mine have never touched mine
not my brugs or dats
I hear they taste terrible anyway
I did have a Cockatoo eat a brugmansia one time
Chewed its trunk like a beaver
expected him to croak.......
he survived
never even got sick
expected him to be dead
Brugs and dats are just as poison as your tomato plants.....
you don't freak when they are around them,do you?
Actually, I am soooooo "green" to raising chickens; it never occurred to me that some of the plants in my yard could be poisonous to them. I was raised in the city with cats and dogs. Put me on the farm and I'm clueless.
Now that I KNOW that some plants are poisonous, I'll be really freaked out! Does anyone have a list of what plants are poisonous to chickens??? I'd feel awful if one of my girls got sick or died because of my ignorance. ....Oh yeah, I'm definitely capable of freaking out!
okay, so here I am on the soap box again.
So chickens are scavengers, right? They live by knowing what is and is not dangerous for them. I think they'll be fine and know what is and is not good for them. As long as you aren't filling the yard with big piles of rusty nails and broken glass and styrofoam to eat, I think you're all set.
Thank you BYH! I'll rest a lot better now....
What soap box???
