All my pretties have new growth now that the temps have warmed up some. If I remember correctly I was told last fall to wait till spring to repot or add more soil...would now be a good time on these that have a good root system from last year?
Time to move up a pot size....or more soil?
Chantell, I've already started repotting in my area on warm sunny days. You just have to look at your climate and decide if it is warm enough to start repotting. Remember that heat is important to a plumeria's recovery after being transplanted so you want to make sure that you have plenty of heat during the day and that it is not too cold at night. Nighttime temps should be remaining in the 50's at the very least.
Ok...maybe I'll give them another week or two. Clare will transplanting cause any issues with forming inflos?
Not unless you accidentally break one off when you turn it upside down to remove it from the pot -- been there; done that! Ouch! That hurts when that happens. I always water with a tablespoon of Vitamin B-1 per gallon after I transplant to help relieve transplant shock, but it isn't imperative. The fresh potting soil and room for the roots to spread out will only encourage growth and inflo progress, provided there is plenty of heat and full sun.
OMG...that would truly make me cry!! Thanks for the wisdom as always...I will be extra careful when moving them.
Clare.. what do you use for your vitamin B-1?
Tammie
Tammie - I'll wait to hear from Clare but I can tell you for my plumies as well as other plants I use SuperThrive...Clare?
That is what I have too but was wondering what others are using. I am interested in learning the 'various ways to skin a cat' so to say. LOL
Tammie
I used to use Superthrive and bought it in the 32 oz bottle, but Vitamin B-1 is the same thing and less expensive. Home Depot sells Vitamin B-1 in the fertilizer section, and I have purchased that, but now I buy a product called Start, which I get from my Farm Supply Store when I buy soil, and I buy it by the case. It is basically Vitamin B-1 with Yucca Extract and some other things. It's about $5 per gallon.
OMG - $5 per GALLON....geez!!! Can you share the manufactor so maybe we can find it online? The superthrive is almost $8 even at Wally World.
Here is the manufacturer: http://www.liquinox.com/about.htm
Clare - thank YOU!!
