What Would You Do?

Greensboro, AL

O.K. Im putting this here because I think it is a problem of sustainability.

Today I met a woman who is starting a girls' ranch for young girls whose families do not want them, or, conversely, they do not want their families. I inadvertently volunteered to be a gardening advisor for her project. There will be more than one ranch because she wants to keep the communities small. Essentially these girls are culturally deprived, and she wants to provide for them a culturally rich environment to grow in to the point where they can make it on their own in the world. On entering the ranch, they will have no role models, other than negative ones, and no family support, so they have to learn to be independent self realized individuals without the usual family structure. Already, a dance teacher has volunteered, and a drama professor from one of the Universities nearby. So these girls have to learn both personal and cultural sustainability for their lifetimes. So what would you do?
