Their UP....

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Just a quick shot of my stands... you all don't laugh too hard, they are very crowded at the moment but I only have 2 stands ready right now. They are all stretching & yawning trying to wake up from their sleepy travels back home.

Yippie, I get to enjoy my favorite forum again!!!

Your stands are just beautiful and your violets look wonderful in their fancy pots. Very nice to see them so neat and organized. I wish mine looked so good. Everything I have is utilitarian. It is great to have you back!

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Snowrose!
It's really nice to clean the shelves off every now & then to get organized. It helps me to see who's doing well & who's in trouble.

Well ,the pots are utilitarian for me, too. I seem to kill my Av's & the "fancy" pots seemed to have saved my lil darlings from a death by drowning.lol

Good to see you again. I don't know why anyone would laugh at your display of lovely AVs. That really is pretty.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you so much 1gardengram!
The laughing starts when you look at the plants up close....they are all stretching straight up in the air intead of laying nice & flat...guess they are glad to have a little room & more light.

I could almost hear them yawn & stretch as I placed them on the shelves. I imagined they were acting like kids do, you know fussing.."Mom he's touching me"..."Mom he's breathing on me"...Mom...make him move over some, I'm too crowded in here."
"Mom are we there yet??"

Anyway, I'm glad to have them situated so I can enjoy them better.

Beautiful MsC. I love to see violets in pretty pots, I think they behave differently dressed up. Your shelves are so neat and clean, I'm going to have to head home and clean mine.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Susan.. I really love the pretty pots, too & yes for me the Av's do seem to know the difference. I use them mostly because it helps keep my watering in check. It also looks very attractive since my stands are in the major part of the house where they are seen by everyone who visits.

The only "bad" thing about the pretty pots is they can get expensive as opposed to the plastic type. I just make a 'loose rule' to buy a new pot- then buy the Av to go in it. The good thing about them is it helps limit the spacing on the shelves.

MsC

Edited cause I can't spell..:)

I started out with pretty pots...then when I got serious about propagating, I am changing to the least expensive self wicking plastic pots....they work well....
Your set up looks great

Oh MsCritter what a Beautiful Set Up you have there! My Dream is to have something that nice looking and so neat! Love all those pretty pots!

I have two pretty little pots that I got at Wal-Mart a few months ago and I really like the look of them. Haven't bought more cause I wan't sure if they were really good to use, even though it said they were self watering pots. So far, so good with the two plants I have in them! I might have to get a few more! Here's a photo of a Pretty Pink Optimara Noid in one of the fancy pots:

Lin, she is sooo pretty!! Isn't it a learning experience to see how everyone pots up these self-wicking systems.....

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

lovely set up! I just can't imagine how you manage to water everything ;-)

Great set up MsC. I know it brightens your day to just look at it. It certainly brightened mine.
Thanks

More pictures MsC please(when you have time).Whats in the terreriums? Curious mind here what to know.lol

(Zone 1)

Yes, Please MsC .... Post some more photo's! And, close up's of the Terrarium's too.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks all for the nice comments...it's still a work in progress, but everything here at the moment is. It' so nice to see all the new members & my old buddies too.
I missed the you all on the forum so much!

I'll post some pics of the terrariums but on the terrarium form :) it's my 2nd favorite forum at DG's.
I can post a link to it for those who don't visit that forum much.

The AV's are holding their own & I'm sure it will take a few months for them to return to a more "showy" state with flat leaf growth but they did travel well! Many are blooming or setting blooms, thanks to the added humidity in their travel boxes.

I still use a few plastic pots with wicks from time to time but I really like the AV self watering pots best. One of the advantages for me was that the AVpots sits lower on the shelf from the lights than the plastic pots/ wicks setting on top of the water containers ...that allows me to have an extra shelf! We all know what an extra shelf can do for your shopping pleasure!!! lol

If you like the wicking part then you could always drill a hole in the ceramic part that the plant grows in to allow for wicking. You just need to use a cermic dril bit and go slowly .It would give the best of both worlds.

I added a pic of the travel boxes I used...

Anyway, glad you enjoyed the pics & there will be more...

Oh MsCritter .... Nice Travel Boxes ... Looks like your plants did real well. Where did you travel from? I assume you just moved to Texas? I'm curious to how long of a trip you and all those AV's had to make! You have soooo many, what a job that must have been to move all those babies!

I love Terrariums too, so will head over to that forum in awhile to see if you've posted any pic's!

Great Growin!

MsCritter, your stands are beautifully organized. Wish mine looked that great!
I just have one 3 tiered stand and it is overcrowded with little plants but I am happy with it just the same!
Keep up the good growing!

I sure missed something here... MsC, when did you move to TX? The last I heard, you were still trying to adjust to life out in the desert... Sounds like Texas suits you better, so I'm glad!

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Hiya Critter,
We moved back about a month ago...lol
I never did adjust, I was "allergic" to the AZ desert...I'm so happy to be home! Hubby found a nice job here & we're close to the kids & that grandbaby of mine, too!!

I'm still unpacking boxes but I take a break every day or so to check in on DG's.

Gail your plants are lovely & we garden alot alike...couch, window, dining room table anywhere their is light.
