HELP! I need some advise on storing my Daffodil bulbs!!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

We are going to be moving soon and have some heirloom type daffodils that I want to take with me. The foliage has withered and I just dug them up (before I forgot where they were!) and I would love some advise on how to store them until I can plant them at the new house (which could be up to 6 months from now). They are these type http://oldhousegardens.com/vanSion.asp and I really don't want to loose them to improper storage.

Thanks in advance for any help on different ways to keep them. Should I just plant them in pots? Store them in sawdust? keep them moist if I pot them? Keep them dry? HELP!!!

I would keep them in a cool, dry, dark area with good air circulation till replanting. I've used this method with good luck.

Dig bulbs (leaving foliage intact), spread them out to air dry for a day or two out of direct sunlight, put them in bags like you buy potatoes in at the store (with holes), and hang bags in a barn or shed until ready to plant.

They will receive good air circulation through the holes in the bags while hanging.

Thank you Shirley!! Sounds like a great plan.

Lali, your moving???? Where to, out of the area or out of state? I hope it's a good move for you.

Not going too far, most likely to Sonoma County or we're going to build on another lot we own about 35 minutes from here (closer to Healdsburg).
It should be a good move, we've been here for 17 years and it's a bit tough to think about moving but we're hoping for the best. Haven't found a place we like yet but we have some time to figure it out.

in the interim, I've been digging coveted perennials and shrubs that are going with me. Including some suckers from our (over) 100 yr. old fig tree.

Some of the plants that I'm taking were here from the original homesteaders, Lilac, the fig trees, these bulbs http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/87638/, some naked ladies, arum, roses and a few others. But I'm taking all of my perennials and bulbs that I can.

I'm glad to hear it's a good move for you. I was so surprised when you mentioned it though. Are you going to take your GH with you too? lol

I'm really sorry you couldn't make the CA RU this year. I was so hoping to finally meet you and possibly Kell, but there is always the future to come.

Thanks for your update and I hope you find a nice place to live.

Thanks Donna, well, in all honesty, the packing and moving of 17 years worth of 'stuff' in my house is not nearly as daunting a task as the moving of the contents of my greenhouse or studio (20 x 20 building filled with light stands and hundreds of plants!!) - so where ever we end up, the first task is to build another greenhouse. The household 'stuff' can stay in boxes until needed, but the plants can't, so flat by flat will have to be hand moved to their new home. Guess I'll have the equivalent of a yard sale for all of those extra plants that I have duplicates of (like spider plants that have planted themselves all over the greenhouse!!)

I would have loved to make the RU, but I'll be down in LA for the begonia society convention in September - two trips right now was just too much.

Well of course the plans for the GH and plants take priority...what else would come first. lol

Ooohhh, maybe I can meet you when you come down for the LA convention. Let me know at that time, ok?

Good luck with everything,

it's in Manhatten beach - how close is that to you?

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Really close, about 30 miles south. I was raised in El Segundo, which is right next door to Manhatten and I lived at the beaches there. My dad still lives in El Segundo and I spend every Wednesdays with him, from morning till 9pm. My sister lives in Redondo Beach, which is next door also. Hey, your going to my stomping grounds for sure!!

We'll for sure have to get together for something or other. Are you driving or flying into LAX. What hotel is the convention at this year? If you need any information regarding the area, let me know, I might just know the answer for you.
