This is a wild entrance into the world for 'Orange Favorite'. I hope I like the bloom when it opens as much as I like it now. Patti
Tulip 'Orange Favorite'
A crested dragon head perhaps?
I do not think it is going to open......I see too much green that is most likely attached to the stem??
Bleek, I took more pictures of it today. I will post them tomorrow. They are worth sharing. Patti
Here is more of the wild ' orange favorite' It did open but is very strange. It certainly looks more like the bird 'parrot' the a tulip 'parrot' Patti
Those are the ones like they are supposed to be.
If you ever want to see a more spectacular one, try Estella Rijnveld or Texas Flame. Cut one flower off with a stem about 2 inches long when they are completely open, fill a cereal bowl with water and put this flower in it. It covers the whole bowl and is a marvelous center piece on the breakfast or coffee table.
bleek, I have lots 'Estella Rijnveld', but no 'Texas Flame'. I will look for that one. One of my favorites this year was 'Eye Catcher' which I can't find for the fall. Estella has had a very long and glamorous run. I have ordered more for next year. I also loved VIRIDIFLORA TULIP - Flaming Spring Green which I got from Bluestones. It is a lovely blend of greens with a dark red flame. The vendor said it had some white, but it has never been white at my house, which was fine by me. Patti
Eye Catcher is red with green 'flames' and about 24" tall. Very nice.
Bleek, Yes, I have it growing, but I can't find a vendor for next year. Any ideas? Mine was more orange than red with a stiking chartruese green. It has been in bloom a very long time. The other similar one which is a nice green and dark red is, 'Omnyacc; which I liked but not nearly as much as 'Eye Catcher' Though I will grow it again. My quest to find 'Eye Catcher' again will go on. Patti
How many do you want?
Bleek min #20 and a max of #50 of 'Eye Catcher'
Here is a collage of what where most of my favorites. , 'Omnyacc', 'Antoinette', 'Flaming Spring Green', 'Rococo', 'Estella Rijnveld', 'Deirdre', 'Eye Catcher', 'Fire Flame' acuminata, 'Flaming Parrot'
I think I got them correct.
Though I see I didn't include, 'Carnival de Nice', 'Creme Upstar', 'The Artist', 'Fabio' (is this the same as 'Davenport'?), 'Gudoshnik", 'Juan', a no id pink fringed that has returned nicely, ophanidea var. flava, 'Pinocchio', 'Aladdin', 'Apricot Beauty' 'Come Back' and a few others which I loved. Plus some species ones that I always want more of.
I did not like 'El Cid', 'Eternal Flame', 'Royal Virgin', 'Sorbet', Red Impression'. These are on the fence 'Montreux' and 'Bright Parrot' and 'Abba'
I liked and will order again most likely 'Monte Carlo', 'Orange Princess', 'Banja Luka', 'Madonna','Swan Wings', 'Daydream', "Princess Irene', 'Zurel' and 'Boule d Ore', 'Angelique', 'Red Riding Hood' 'Favorite Orange' and 'Lemon Snow'
This is the bulk of my tulips this year, but some I have already forgotten some or they where hard to id and thus not on this list. I will mark them when I plant them this year. Lesson learned.
I can't wait to see the 2007 bulb list on eflower. http://www.eflowergarden.com/ When do you think it will be up? Patti
