IF YOU DID lmk as i would like to trade with you. none of my seeds came up. thanks. barb
DID ANYONE GET YELLOW CLEOME PLANTS?
Did you stratify them? I forgot to do so and had the same result.
well some of them i put in the fridge before i winter sowed in a pot. and i direct sowed some last fall. now i am about to put this pot back in the fridge. how disappointing. i hope someone got plants.
I just planted a whole bunch of these seeds. Some have been in the fridge all winter and some I direct sowed this past weekend. It's still very chilly here in Maine at night so if I get some plants, I will certainly let you know. Are you looking for an actual plant or some seeds from the plant (should I get some to grow) this fall?
Kim
kim i would prefer an actual plant. and if you get plants you may be the only one. i am going to put my pot back in the fridge for a couple of weeks and see if that helps too. so keep us informed. barb
That's right, in Texas it would be a perennial for you right? In Maine all Cleome are annuals. From what I understand this is a very hard Cleome to get to bloom. I have no problems with all the other Cleome but this one proves to be a challenge!! I'm going to sow some more in some window boxes I have this coming weekend. I'm putting seeds everywhere to see if I can possibly get them to germinate anywhere and planting at different times too to see if that helps *lol*
Kim
we may have to write that lady in utah to see if she would dig some of her plants for us. lol.
mamajack, I think you had promised me some yellow cleome seeds last fall, but didn't receive them. I sure would like to try them, if they are located.
I didn't know there was a yellow cleome. Would love to see picture if anyone has one. This is my first year to grow cleome. I have purple and pink. My purple just bloomed; very pretty flowers.

here is a picture of cleome lutea phughes. these seeds are hard to find. last year i got a lot of seeds from a gardener in utah and gave them to many dg'ers but so far no one has had seeds to germinate.
defoecat, if i promised you seeds and didn't send them i am sorry but i don't have any more seeds. this plant is shown to grow in the states west of texas so none of us may have the right conditions to grow them. but i would have thought that someone would have gotten germination at least.
If someone has grown the yellow cleome please let me know - I would love to buy/trade for a few seeds.
Kathy
Thanks for the picture; there is someone else on DG wanting these seeds but I don't remember what forum I read it on. I think he/she actually found the seed but then it didn't germinate or it germinated and then died. Sounds like it is a real challenge to grow from seed.
last year when i was looking for these seeds i wrote 3-4 different native plant societies in the western states. most of them had never heard of this plant and sure didn't have the seeds or know where to get them. i found them on a gw search. apparently they grow wild in utah and were considered weeds by this one lady. what's the climate like in utah.............hot and dry and cold and snowy?
