I'm new to the site, I discovered it by accident while looking for Narragansets on the net. Does anyone know where I might find one or more in Michigan? I've already ordered and recieved my chicks from the hatchery this year, so I don't really want to go that route. I would love a pair (adult or chicks), but would be thrilled with even just a tom. I saw one last week and am absolutely in love with the breed. He'd be a great addition to the peacock strutting around the yard. Thanks to anyone who can help!
Searching for Narragansett Turkey
Hi jylgaskin and welcome! Have you googled for Your states livestock auctions? You might be surprised at how many you have close to you! You might also place an ad in your state Farmers Market Bulletin!
Welcome!
I like this breed too, and if I were brave enough to butcher something that big, I'd try it. I would do the following:
check with the county fair people or 4-H folks
call your local cooperative extension
ask around at the local farm bureau
and http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Turkeys/BRKTurkey.html
There's a breeder on this page:

I see on the link Zeppy posted Vickie Pittman has them listed. She's GREAT to deal with !!! I got my silkie and cochin eggs from her.

Thanks for all the info!
Welcome jylgaskin! The folks on DG are awesome and will be a big help to you. You're going to enjoy DG! I'm sure you and your experience with wildlife rehabilitation will be a big asset to DG as well. We're glad you're here and look forward to your posts in the future. :)
I Googled Narraganset Turkeys to see what they look like. They are beautiful! I see now why you want some. ~~ I really enjoy reading about Heritage animals, and the effort to preserve them.
By the way, our cottage is northeast of Kalkaska and we pass through Williamsburg on our way to Traverse City each time we go there. Your area of Michigan is absolutely beautiful!

Glenda. We will have to get together when you are up! It's pretty magical around here in the summer. One of the local DNR refers to our yard as "Disneyland!" (I think he means it as a compliment)
How funny that I used to stop in Fowlerville on my way downstate on business. There was a restaraunt right off the freeway that was always a favorite. My son a called it "the duck place" I guess because of the Fowlerville sign.
Let me know when you will be up North! jyl
Thank you jyl, I would love to visit! I will D-mail you when I know I will be up north. Frequently, we have guest and family staying with us, but I will let you know when I have a free day and I am alone. I often have my two daughters and 6 grandchildren (ages 20 months to 6 yrs.) in tow on my way to TC, so I'll avoid your place on those days. LOL ~~ What kinds of animals do you have? I hope you have your Narraganset turkey by then. I would love to see him.
When going to Traverse City we take M72 across and frequently turn south on Williamsburg to go to TC the "back way", in order to bypass the traffic on some of TC's busiest days. Is that very close to you?
When traveling through, you probably stopped at Fowlerville Farms to eat. Was it a "home cooking" type of menu and you had to walk through a gift shop in order to get to the restaurant? I'm sure that's where you ate. …It's a small world!

You go right by my street. When you see the white church on Williamsburg road, that is Church St , it's only a block long and if you go down it, it's not hard to pick out my house. It looks exactly like a place you would drop off animals or homless flowers. And I LOVE children. I'm one of thoes mothers who is between children and grandchildren so I stand in front of baby displays at the store and drool over tiny little shoes.
Right now, all I have in the wildlife department is a bunch of squirrells and a fox kit, but the fawns should start coming in any day now. As far as domestics, we have ducks (soon to hatch eggs) rabbits, chickens and chicks, a couple of young turkeys, a peacock, dogs, cats and whatever miscelleanious inhabitants who are here at the moment. Oh, and the new addition, a hive of bees.
I have 5 gardens, vegatable, flower, water and herb and a studio full of fairies. (All that and you don't even need the E-ticket)
Hey, I don't mean to butt in, but do be careful about all the specific directions, etc., on this forum. I believe this forum is open to everyone on the web, not just DG members. You could always remove any personal stuff and put it into a Dmail instead.
Sorry to be a wet blanket!
You're not a wet blanket Zeppy; not at all. JYL is new to DG and might not realize the exposure. It's always better to be safe than sorry. JYL, you can edit your post to remove the details of where you are. In the future, we can Dmail when the time comes to visit. :) DG's Dmail is a great feature on this website. Have you been on DG long enough to discover Dmail?
It sounds like you have a lovely place! Someday when you have grandchildren, they will love your animal sanctuary!! Thanks again for your kind invitation. I'm looking forward to visiting some day. :)

Have no clue how to use Dmail. I think the world knows where I am anway. At least it feels like it when I am trying to get work done.( SOmeone showed up at 7:30 this morning wanting to know if I was still selling soap.)
All you gotta to is put you cursor over the name of the person you want to dmail and right click it will bring up a screen that has the option "Send so and so a Dmail" put your curser over that and click and..........
Thank you!
