The first time I saw a mushroom like this I thought the dog had eaten one of the kids nerf darts that was around here at the time but this is not the case.
I have never seen anything like this and it reeks to high heaven and attracts flies like crazy. What kind is it.
The stem looks and feels like a nerf product.
Need help to identify mushroom.
snipe,
I saw this exact same mushroom on a DG board the other day when searching forum archives to identify one of my own mushrooms...I think yours is the one that supposedly smells like dog poo, don't laugh...I'm going to search again and see if I can find it for you, but in the mean time, go to the forum search and maybe use key words 'mushroom' and 'dog'...
i'll post a link if i can find what i read the other day...

Thanks abl_newbie I tried a search but didn't find that one. So its a fungus and not a mushroom. Odd it has the head of a mushroom so thats why I thought thats what it was. I appreciate the link and the info.
Don
don,
copy the scientific name they gave in that thread, and search it on google...i found some really fun web sites with more info and interesting/gross pictures...if you have any young boys, be sure and call them to the computer to see! it's just the kind of disgusting thing that they love!
:)

Welcome to the club of stinkhorns. I myself had stinky squid stinkhorns. Befre they were identified, they looked like turtle eggs (or some other kind of egg...we couldn't tell what) and I was incubating them in my kitchen. Woo Hoo - it stunk! It was good for a belly laugh.
