How do I mail Eggs?

Eatonton, GA(Zone 8b)

Okay heres one for you guys that have done this or have recieved eggs to hatch! I am going to mail some fertilized eggs to a friend. Iknow they need to be packed securely but im unsure just how ! I know they have to Breathe while in transit! Any Suggestions??

Northern Michigan, MI(Zone 5a)

Well I've bought a lot of eggs this year. They seem to come one of two ways.

Each egg individually bubble wrapped then placed in a box of foam peanuts then placed in a bigger box with newspaper or padding .

The second way is an egg tray scattered with pine shavings, eggs in cups, then more pine shavings scattered over. The egg carton is taped shut then wrapped in bubble wrap then placed in a heavily cushioned box of newspaper and such.

In all the eggs I've recv'd I've only had one that was broken in transit. Just make sure they can't move and the container is in another cushioned container. Mark fragile all over the box and some put hatching eggs please don't x-ray. I know one woman wrapped the inner box in tenfoil, supposedly to protect against x-ray. I don't know if that works or not.

Hope this helps

Thanks Julie! Now I have some where to begin! I was a bit worried about "suffocating" them!

I second Julie's methods! I too have shipped & received LOTS of eggs this season - - and I personally prefer the bubble wrap method for transit. I've yet to receive a broken egg that has been individually bubble wrapped, secured into an egg carton, and surrounded by either newspaper or foam peanuts, just make sure that the carton can not move in any direction, and you should be good to go! I know your friend will be thrilled with the eggs! Best of luck!
Belinda :-)
