Mama is now sitting on the nest... and at least I think these are bluebird eggs. That's what I saw building the nest in the box earlier.
I have scads of other babies in the covered eaves on my bridge, and the open eaves in my garden shed. I hear peeps every time I go by either place. Cannot see the nests so I don't know what's hatched.
Bluebird eggs
Their beautiful! Congratulations!
Thanks. I hope to get the rest of my stuff from storage soon, and I have one more bluebird box in there. I think I have enough open land to place another nest.
Congratulations, I love that color blue. I hope you can get some more pics after the babies hatch.
I'm surprised the nest looks so "loose". Those eggs are really pretty. Yes, keep those pictures coming!
The bluebirds have finally decided to nest in a bluebird house in my backyard. The funny thing is that I put up a nice clean new house on a pole against the fence right next to the place where the old house was. I took the old house and put it about 15 feet away just sitting on top of the fence post to offer it to any other birds that might want to use it. I kept waiting for the blues to take up residence in the new place but instead they went in the old one instead. I used the pole thinking that it would be a little higher and better so any preditors would have a harder time bothering them. Oh well maybe another couple will come along and use the new one. It even has a hook hole on the pole where I planned to offer up some nice meal worms once they started to nest. I'm just excited to see them anyway. Last year I enjoyed seeing them fledge to the top of my granddaughter's wooden swing set which is about 15 feet away learning how to fly.
I have a pair that is nesting in a box on my pole. They sit on the wire when I mow, hoping I'll stir up some tasty morsel. I guess I do, because they follow me around and light very close to the mower. I really enjoy them and the blue of their feathers is incrediable. Beth
Thats Great!!! Thanks for the very nice pic. Please keep us posted with updates. Very sweet!
and I see at least 4 babies
Looks like 5 to me, you can just see the bill of #5, largely hidden between the front two chicks
Resin
Resin, I thought there might be 5, just didn't want to keep the box open long at this stage!
Wonderful photos, Darius - thanks for sharing!
Awww, how cute!
Gosh they are so cute! Thanks for letting me know about these pictures D! I'm glad to hear and see that all 5 are there (Thanks Resin!)
darius, keep us posted on them! I know you'll be watching them.
Since I have some DG'ers coming to visit tomorrow, I thought I'd wait until then to open the box again for a photo. I really do not like to disturb them much.
Oh, they hatched! Those eggs are such a lovely cool blue. I'm so jealous of you getting your company tomorrow! Wish you could all take a road trip up our way!
