Just thought I would share what I have been doing to spruce up my place since I moved here almost 2 years ago. I rent but the landlord doesn't mind anything that I do. I figure since I will be here at least 3 more years, I might as well enjoy what I've got!
Here is a pic of what the front looked like last year. This was on your left as you walked up to my front door. I hated this stupid dead bush, and finally had a neighbor hack it down for me. Unfortunately at the time he couldn't get the stump because his chainsaw had a problem, and there was no way that thing would be dug out.

my gardens so far....
This is what it looks like now. I decided rather than try removing the stump, that I would make it part of the landscape instead. I traded with a lovely DG member who was willing to share some tillandsias with me. I mounted them on the stump to make an arrangement. I have a bottlebrush on the right, a castor bean behind it, and a brumansia on the left. There is some space left to fill in front.
I am a novice, especially to Texas gardening as I am from Ohio, so it is a work in progress. Enjoy!

Kim, you have done a wonderful job with your rented spaces. Not many people would put in the effort to improve a short time residence. I can see what great beds you have started and they will only get better each year. Way to go!! As the commercial says "plant something and watch it grow". You mproved your world!
Looks great blue! I especially like what you did with the stump.
You've done a great job with the yard. Congratulations!

happy garden to you
Kim, your beds look fantastic! So much work! And nothing "cutesy" - just plants and flowers. Love it!
