these ants on the back of sunflower leaves seem to be protecting the group of black specks

I wonder if that is aphids eggs the ants are protecting. They are probably "nurse" ants that raise and "milk" the aphids. Funny how nature works! :-)

I've got something eating some of my sprouting Sunflowers. No cats, but I bet they are underground during the day. Will check later with a flashlight to try to find what is eating them!

Becky,
It was you that sent me the cassia privet, right? It's uuuupppp! Hopefully I'll have something munching on it too soon.

I can't tell what those black speck are, the ants are rather aggressive when I touched the leaf. Had to turn it over by grabbing the stem several inches away from the leaf.

Guess I'm going have to go pillar huntin' after dark too.
