Ok, anyone know how to get rid of duckweed? Thanks.
Can you get rid of duckweed?
Is it in a natural pond or a man made pond? Big or little?
Manual removal with a skimmer should help keep it down but won't get rid of it completely.
Duckweed isn't supposed to like moving water, so a pump with a spitter might help.
Some fish will eat it. My goldfish love it and between the spitter and the ravenous beasties, I have to grow it a bucket.
How to get rid of Duckweed?
Send it to me :)
I ordered some on Ebay and it was gone in a week, I'm not sure where it went...maybe the fish ate it. I wish would have put some in a bucket lol
It is like a salad for fish & Ducks .
It's supposed to help keep the fish regular too, like peas.
They get swim bladder problems if they get clogged up from too much dry food.
That sounds like a prickley situation ???
Or should that be a stickey situation ???
LOL at Ginger. Hi there!!!
Jeri
Hi Jeri ,
What's cooking ?
Nothing!!! Went out to dinner at the resterant that Lamom works at to surprise her and she took the night off. We got the surprise.

Thanks for the link. I will pass it along to our director of the gardens and let him check it out.
I wished you lived closer too!! My coworkers would be sooooo happy to see someone taking it out of here. It got so bad last year that the whole lake was green. Never saw water unless it was windy or raining.
PLEASE email me if you have duckweed to get rid of? Postage + cost of packing supplies and a trade (perennials)...does that sound like a fair deal for your excess?
Thanks so much for considering,
Diane
Yeah, ginger. Like that. With the geese and all. I will ask at work if they would be willing to mail some duckweed to you. I don't know if it will ship or not but if it can I will make sure you guys get some if the boss approves.
Pep , Put plant in plastic bag ,
It will keep for more than 1 week in there .
We do it here in OZ .
Ok, thanks. I will get permission to get some then!!
Please put me on the duckweed for postage list :)
I've gotten it through the mail and it travels very well.
Hi Pepper23,
If you get permission, what sort of perennial (s) would you like in trade (I can send my end first and enclose postage for yours, if that works for you)?
Thanks,
Diane
I think Pep is looking for a 15 Ft high Fox Tail Palm ?
Might not fit in the mail box .
Ha ha ha. I do not want any palms in my yard. lol. It would not fit in at all.
Diane, I gotta think about what plants I want. lol. I had to move my hostas to a more shaded spot so anything that likes sun and grows well next to a juniper stump will work.
Pepper, you don't have a wants list. I can send you an assortment from my garden and something should do fine where your hostas used to be. Most of my stuff is for full to part sun. Please send me a D-mail with your address and I can get started digging and putting into a box....
Diane
P.S. Ginger--goodness, we have Amtrak parcel service just for those big foxtail palms! I've heard that palms prefer to travel by train! ;)
Well that's travelling in style isn't it mtnmama ? :o)
You betcha, Ginger! Nothin' but the best for our palms, I always say ;) Of course, the succulents prefer to fly--but I digress! chuckle....
Any foxtails land in my yard, I will make sure to send them on to ginger. lol
TaaM8 .
lol. No problem. For you, the more the merrier, for me the fewer the merrier.
Duckweed is great for purifying water, but then what do you do? Try making it into direct bio-diesel by squeezing the vegetable oil out of it, then using the oil as diesel fuel. The residue left can be used for ethanol production. An acre of Duckweed has the potential to produce 1000 gallons of ethanol compared to an acre of corn which produces 300 gallons of ethanol, shorting our food supply. How do you get the duckweed from the water? Check out this link. Http://weedyknights.com/www.weedyknights.com/. The site shows harvesting duckweed by machine and bagging it for disposal or transport.
If you are still overrun with duckweed, send it to me.
I live in NJ and will gladly pay freight from anywhere in USA.
