Storing tulip bulbs for another year?

Dallas, GA(Zone 7b)

I had Princess Irene and Mickey Mouse tulips in pots last year. I left them in the pots until all the foliage died and now I have pulled the bulbs. They had babies, it seems, because there are several very small ones in with the originals. Question is - If I dry them and store them in the fridge, and then replant in October - what are the chances that they'll come back? Somebody once told me that these "fancy" tulips won't come back. Is that true?

Also, if it's a good idea to try this, should I put them in the fridge now and just leave them there for 5 months? I know they need a minimum amt of cold weeks - but is there a maximum?

While on the subject, I also have some narcissus/tulips (like Bridal Crown) that grew in pots. I'm thinking of pulling these bulbs too and stroring them in the fridge with the tulips. Pros? Cons? Would I be better just leaving them in their pots and putting them in my garden shed?

All advice appreciated

I never keep tulips as they tend to do lousy the second year. I throw mine down in the back and let nature deal with them. I get a wild garden back there, some bloom, some don't. Some wait a year or 2 to bloom. My main beds get new ones each year if I plant them at all.

Jo,
Although most tulip bulbs don't come back well after the first year, it won't cost you anything to try. I planted all my tulips a bit deeper than I used to do. They've come back for the third year and done wonderfully. A few were marked as perennial tulips, but the rest were not.
Make sure that the tops have died back before you cut them off and stick the bulbs in the icebox.

Thanks. I guess I might as well give it a try. They won't take up much room in the fridge at any rate. Oh - I guess I should not even bother with the tiny pups, or should I?

What about the narcissus bulbs? Should I put them in the fridge now too?

Jo,
You are in the same zone as I am. I might just try putting the narcissus bulbs in the ground if you have an area for that. Thinking about how long they may need to be chilled, you may just want to store them in a dry place until the fall, then cool them.
