Just wondering what the breakdown is between dial-ups vs. broadband people on the forum. So is it dial-up, dsl, cable or anything else? I have cable.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

cable

(Zone 4a)

I think we have cable. It is a fast connection anyhow.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey I'm on cable now. We have cable/phone and internet for $100 a month. Hate to see Time Warner struggling to get by :)

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I am DSL through Verizon. it seems very fast.

I had cable for 11 years or so. I got sick of paying 152.40 a month for internet and TV and approx. 50 bucks for phone. That is around 200 bucks a month.

Now Verizon approx. 87.00 for phone and internet. Approx 77 for cable TV - 40 bucks a month savings.

I do not see much of a difference between cable and DSL.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

DSL here , much faster than the dial up I had last year!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

dsl

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Comcast cable and TV, Verizon and ATT for telephone only use MSN exclusively with the butterfly, for me it is very simple and fast

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

schick, did you check the deals recently. They're really pushing the all-in-one deals. Cable is quite a bit faster than dsl. Go to a speed test website. I get better than 12M per sec routinely.

I am locked in with Verizon for 5 more months. I really see no difference. Then again I don't travel much over the internert. I don't live on the computer, I live off the computer. Winter is Ebay - schicken is a power seller. Summer is here and just a couple of other places.

I do not have one thing planted in the garden yet - grrrrrrr One night this week is supposed to be close to freezing, so say's the local weather.

I am laying out the garden. Who is going to live where. I am being pulled and pushed between 54 and 72 tomato plants. If it is going to freeze, I will have to cover between 54-72 tomato plants. That is a lot of SHEETS!
Dang still not playing in the dirt.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I have everything with Verizon now, phone, including long dist, my dsl, I saved by paying my DirecTV thru Verizon instead of paying them directly. I don't currently have a cell, but I'm probably going to get a go phone thru Verizon. the more you can bundle, the more you save (generally)

Hillsdale, NY(Zone 5b)

DSL.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No dial-ups yet! Surprised.

Oh Victor, you spoke too soon. I have dial-up.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Cable.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sorry elsie - that I spoke too soon, but more importantly, that you are tortured with dial-up.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

dsl. verizon is VERY busy installing fiber optics in my town so I will bundle soon.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

In my town too. How fast is their fiber internet?? Price?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

cable - get roadrunner and cable TV for free (sorry guys)! DH works for TimeWarner and it's the only thing he gets from the company. They've taken away his retirement after buying out the company he previously worked for, moved the warehouse he worked in to an old garage with no heat, is harrassed by his boss - in other words they're trying to force him to quit because he is at the high end of what they want to pay unskilled labor ( he has been there over 30 years) !! The guys at the top are raking in the $$$$$$$ while the little guys are struggling to make a living. I better stop before I fill up the page on TimeWarner. Sorry for getting carried away.
p.s. He even had to take a couple of old plastic lawn chairs from home so he would have a place to sit down!!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Don't know how fast the fios is but I would think similar to cable. I've heard the three(internet, tv, phone) will be offered at less than 100 per month. The offer will probably be for a year then jumps to three thousand per month..or a leg..or first born..or kidneys are selling well

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Pitiful and outrageous, gram.

grammy, that's a shame, though not surprising. But who needs a pension when you get free access to the likes of Jerry Springer and 85 reality shows, not to mention 38 makeover shows.

venu - you're probably not way off!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

DH won't let me get free phone cause it doesn't work very well!! A large percentage of the people who sign up for it cancel because you tend to get cut off while talking. And also when the power goes out so does the phone service. He says they have a lot of problems to work out of the system.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Surprised to hear that. I have had internet based telephone for two years now - with Vonage. Has been perfect.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Victor that may change. Vonage was sued (big time) and Vonage lost...I think to Verizon..and life and legalities go on......

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I know venu. I plan to switch to Cablevision. Already have tv and cable with them. Annoying that they charge $40 to keep your number though.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

They gotta get you one way or another. How else would they afford those golden parachutes?? Can't expect CEOs to live on caviar alone!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I've had Vonage for about 6 months. Why did they get sued? They were cheaper than even the bundle price for Comcast (which is my TV & internet). I don't love Comcast. My digital package, which was going to cost no more than my old service, ended up costing nearly twice as much.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Venu - loved your post about firstborn, kidneys, etc.

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

I was on dial-up until just this past February, when we (finally!) switched to DSL. I think we were the only people we knew on dial-up.

Gotta admit I don't see much difference, though. Only when loading photo-heavy threads, and also when on-line shopping - the pages (again, photo-heavy) load more quickly with DSL. My computer guy did say we had the fastest dial-up he had ever seen, so maybe we were lucky all those years.

Better than the actual DSL itself, I like the idea of the wireless router we have, so we can have several computers connected at once. DH now has his laptop, and with a daughter going into college, we may well have a third computer soon. Let me add, so I don't get kicked off the Sustainability forum, lol, that the thought of this kinda makes me cringe, but with two adults who make extensive use of the computer for work purposes, and two teenagers, sometimes you have to be realistic.

Dave, Vonage lost big-time regarding patents. Their viability is in serious doubt. Judges will decide their fate. Cablevision was not as good until recently. Now, if I switch voice, it's only $15 per month, permanently (?). Vonage is $25.

Dee, I am ratting you out to Darius. How dare you?? Just kidding. Some things are necessary. Besides, today's computers are much more efficient - especially notebooks. Wireless is cool but mine slowed down over time. I ended up running an ethernet cable since I rarely move the notebook.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Slow DSL. I don't want to pay the extra $$ to get the faster DSL. But it is soooo much better then the dial-up I had until about a year ago. And Rabbit Ears for my TV - it only gets one station and badly - but it is free!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Does it get the Bugs Bunny network?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

No - CatTV

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

If anyone has CSTV and is watching the Virginia play-off's, Jack's granddaughter, Kimberly Williams, trounced the other team!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pirl, I don't know what you are talking about but it sounds wonderful!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is this softball?? My brother-in-law's son is on the lacrosse team of UNC. They are in the playoffs. If they won today they make the semis. He was excited yesterday.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Basketball. Sorry, I'm just not a sports fan but I am very happy for lovely Kim and her team. We didn't get to see it, not having that station available. Kim goes to C.W. Post, here on Long Island.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Jack your husband?
