Agrhhhh....... Coop is muddy !

Claremore, OK(Zone 6a)

We have had so much rain here, I think my chickens are going to grow webbed feet. Poor Chickens. Their coop is soooo muddy. I keep putting straw and dried grass clippings in the bottom as fast as I can, but it just keeps raining, and it's not just a shower. It's been torrential down-pours.

I hate it when it's so muddy. Makes the eggs dirty too. I've thrown away probably 2 dozen eggs because they were so dirty.

Today I finally decided to just let them out of their pen to free range until it dries up a little. Guess where they went. Straight to my flower beds. They thought those bright red petunias looked like tomatoes I suppose.

Agrrrrrrr ! I just re-planted all my annuals after losing them to the Easter freeze. Needless to say, back to the coop !

I guess I don't need to tell you all.............. that neither the chickens or I, are enjoying all this rain. We need some sunshine !!!!!!!!

How long has it been raining in OK? (I haven't been near the TV in a few days.) I just checked your area on www.wunderground.com and it looks like after today, you should have 3 or 4 dry days in the 80's. Hopefully you'll dry out in that time. My girls are up under a huge lean to so I don't have to deal with mud, but I can try to imagine how awful it must be. :(

Gosh we need a few dry days. It's so wet, just going out to feed and water them is like walking thru a marsh or swamp. Not to mention that it makes their pen area stink ! We have had so much rain, the ground just can't absorb any more.

I hate to even think about the mosquitoes this summer after all this rain. Water is standing in every ditch in our area. But it sure makes for pretty flower beds. If I didn't have so much money tied up in the flower beds, I'd just let them out to free range. Tried that, didn't work.

PeggieK,
It's rained here to and to keep the mud down put mulch or straw
down to walk on it and the mud will dry...
I do this when it is muddy and the girls love the straw too they play with it and chase each other around the coop...
After a coulpe of days I rake it up and the girls just have a ball.
LOLO..

Im so sorry for the trouble you all are having because of the rain! Down here in Georgia , we are praying for it! As a matter of fact my Chickens are so missing the rain that when I fill the waterers they run over and investigate the water trickle on the ground! I then have to spray them and make a couple of mud puddles for them. They roll in the mud and peck at it and talk, talk talk talk! they are like people kids making mud pies, only they eat them!LOL!!

Tracey, I've gone thru a bunch of straw. I kept putting it down in their pen to get them out of the mud, and I'd go back out and they would have it trampled down and turned into soup. It just kept raining and raining. I finally ran out of straw and started using the big pile of grass clippings we stack each summer. It's a big pile, like a pickup load.

It's finally stopped raining and things are starting to dry up. Their pen floor is about 7 inches taller than the outside area now though. haha.

Good thing it stopped. Their floor would be knee high to me before long. Instead of Little House on The Prarrie, it could be Chicken house on the hill !

Sure is good to see the sun shine again !

Glad the rain's done for now. Those hens are going to enjoy their dirt baths in the sun!

Eu,
That is funny mine love the mud to and when I walk out their it was all mud from the rain and I had to put mulch down just so I could walk and I always give a little mud for them because it cools them down from the heat..
