boot up problem

Arcata, CA(Zone 9b)

When my computer boots up windows XP (Home) it stays there until I shut it off. (It will boot up fine then) I have waited over 20 minutes hoping that it will fix itself. So far no luck. After a few days of shutting it off it will finally tell me to put in my recovery disk. It will be fine for a few days, then it starts again. I have ran the problem to check the system hard drive, memory, etc. that came with the computer. I just restored/recovery for the 3rd time last week. Now its starting again. IS THERE a program on XP that allows you to go back to a certain date for config. ?
The machine is just 15 months old. Compag, from staples., I hate to buy another machine just so I can get on the internet. Any suggestions?
Thanks
