I just started moving out my cordylines, bromeliads, something that was a gift and looks like a type of geranium. Who else is moving out plants after the delayed winter? Am I being stupid or hopeful?
Who in zone 6 is moving 'em out?
I'd say you're being reasonable. I moved my tropicals out a week ago. I no longer see any freezing temps in our forecast, and our average date of last frost used to be May 17th. Over the past ten years that date has become April 30th.
-Joe G.
I have mine out and they are staying out.
dixie
Thanks. Our last frost date is May 15 but I think we're OK. I usually plant roses, dianthus, etc. around Mother's Day and it's worked out. first year with the tropicals though.
bbinnj
I've moved many of mine out but am keeping them close to the house.....just in case
Sunday AM is suppose to be in the mid 30's here
is west orange what's considered The Oranges on the signs on 80 in Jersey?
Everynite I go by it and say
what are the oranges?
Or is it a Jersey thing and NYer won't get it ?
Yep, The Oranges are Orange, East Orange, South Orange, and West Orange.
We're not supposed to get that cold. I280 goes right through Orange and West Orange.
that explains it
but don't tell me there is no North Orange....LOL
I drive to Saddlebrook 4 nites a week on rt 80
exit 62A
I go right by the 280 exit.......
always wondered about that,,,
then again there are other names that I wonder about too.....
the main one that bothers me
Netcong....is that an Indian name?
How about Piscataway or Ho Ho Kus?
Those are Indian (Native American). No, no North Orange, maybe because West Orange is north of Orange? I just live here.....
Havent see HoHo Kus.......ROTFLMAO
is that Santa cursing?????
dang....I know there's some more that I see off 80
then again
who am I to laugh
we have some funny names up here too
HoHoKus is in Bergen County and pretty near the NY State border, off Route 17 (and I know you know route 17 if you are in West Monroe, which must be near Monroe; I used to summer in the Catskills and stop at the Red Apple, which I believe is now Woodbury Commons, and my older daughter went to HS in Suffern.
Nope
West Monre is WAY north,no where near Monroe ,3 or 4 hours apart...LOL
I'm 30 miles north of Syracuse NY,north shore of Oneida lake,in Oswego Co
(speaking of Indian names)
But I know where monroe is cause I lived in Shrub Oak in Westchester for about 5 years
(20 years ago......)
can't beleive I never heard of HoHoKus
Wow, The Red Apple just brought back a lot of memories. We always stopped there on our way to the Adirondacks when I was a child and that must have been at least 50 years ago. Small world.
CC, you have quite a commute there.
CC, LOL here. West Monroe is WAAAAY north of Monroe, and West Orange is north of Orange. Sense a pattern here, do we?
CC - has all your snow melted yet? LOL
Dave,Oh that was mean......ROTFLMAO
But yes its gone here but there is still some up in Redfeild........
some freinds went to their camp this week and emailed a picture with snow up next to the camp, its where it got piled up more where the roof got shoveled.....
the ice has been off the lake for 6 weeks but its still too chilly to get in it.....
ardesia
its not really a comute
its my job,or is it an adventure?
I drive tractor trailer
I go from Syracuse,to Binghamton, then to our saddlebrook NJ facility, wait for my load to come in from Philly, hook up again and go back to Syracuse
I work from 5:30 PM to 7 or 7:30 am
I can only do it 4 days a week 'cause DOT regulations say drivers can only work 60 hours,I work 13 + a day so on Friday nites I usually only have 7+ hours available so I end up just doing local stuff on Friday
and yes,I'm a girl..........You hear tractor trailer and most people think ....opps,must be a man......
bbinnj
yes I see a pattern
the settlers who founded our towns were lost and clueless
CC, I am so jealous. I have always wanted to drive a big rig. It may be politically incorrect to say so but I LOVE big cars and trucks. Strictly for the record I do not drive a particularily large car but one just big enough to tote lots of plants. LOL
No one has ever acused me of being politically correct
I love big trucks too
My Pickup truck is a full size chevy 2500 HD, 4X4 , 4 door, black tinted windows, dual exaust, and big fat knobby aggresive tires.......
You don't want to know what my fuel costs every week
But it has its practical side too
The 4 door part is cause I have 2 great danes....they enjoy a ride in the back but when its cold out and I have to take them somewhere there is plenty of room in the back seat for them,it folds down flat, the pick up part is cause I have a farm and I'm always hauling stuff in it.....700 lbs of feed a week,hay,manure.......the 2500HD is cause thats what I needed to haul my boat, its 38ft and my truck still struggles with it ,I shoulda got a 3500 HD
The tires are because I got sick of getting stuck in the mud in my yard, driving down to the barns or the lake can be a mud bogging experience....LOL
and for cars...I like'um small and fast and loud......
Whats stopping you from learning to drive a big rig?
The only time I really don't like it is in snowstorms......
which I'll bet you don't have to deal with.....
I was 38 when I got my CDL A,and if I can do it anyone can............
Dale, you are a meany.
I used to have a large SUV and we were living at that time in downtown Boston. I could never have driven in that horrendous traffic without something with muscles. Every time I got back to our parking garage alive I said a little prayer. Had my share of little red ragtops over the years too; now I am old and stodgy. I have reached the age where I need a safe car for toting little kids around, only this time it is for the grand kids.
I drive a small SUV, just big enough to lug around 2 collies or 6 bags of mulch, whichever comes first.
LOL, the important things, fur babies and mulch always rule.
and dale
that is mean too
Our leaves are just coming out now
such zone envy
do you think those plants would grow in containers here?
guess I'd need a 3 story GH
as it is my nanas are smushed all winter in the GH
I'm moving some stuff out now. Ready to protect them IF we get another frost....
Tom
Zone 7, here, most of the orchids went out this weekend, as well as the hibiscus, BOP, draecana, pandan pine, aloe, the overwintered begonias, & a couple of other things that were kicked outside. We've had a strange spring, it's been up & down, temperature-wise,-at this point, anything that doesn't make it outside is toast!
