In my excitement of finally being able to plant crocus, tulips and all kinds of other spring bulbs, I planted with abandon last fall. No method to the madness, lol.
This year, after seeing them bloom, I really don't like the hodge podge look. I also need the bed for something else, lol.
I'd like to relocate about 90% of them but don't want to wait until the foliage dies back. I need the space now ; (
Most of the crocus have finished blooming and the foliage is still perky and green. Will it hurt if i dig them now? The tulips are just now starting to bloom so they are safe, at least for a little while.
Thanks
Moving spring bulbs
This is a good question. It would seem in theory that you could move them after they have bloomed. You don't want to cut the foliage until it begins to yellow, because the bulbs need to store energy for next year. It shouldn't seem to matter if the bulbs build their energy in flower bed "A" or "B".
Hopefully, someone who has tried this can give you their insight.
I recently moved a huge amount of daffodils for the same reason. I wanted to plant some other plants in the bed. In my case, I decided that I didn't want to replant the daffodils.
I've done it many times before--just take as much soil as you can spare around them as you dig (use a shovel not a trowel) and 85% will be fine. Tulips I don't do down here--but I do a lot of bulbs.
