Hiya Tropical lovers! Okay, here is todays question: I have a Passiflora Lady Margaret that is currently in a small (5 inch) clay pot. I have one of those spiral climb thingys that I want the LM to grow on, so I was about to re-pot it. The poor thing only has a few leaves - its just a wee baby, and I don't want to shock it too badly, but it seems to make more sense to me to put it in a pot big enough for the spiral thingy, rather than just one pot size up and then transplant again later. So, what do ya'll think, and also would it be a good idea to add some coffee grounds to the potting soil? That was my plan. Waiting to hear - I've missed ya all!

Passiflora Lady Margaret
Shari, how the heck did you end up way out there?? :-) I have potted small passies into big pots so I can trellis them.I make bamboo tipis with 3 poles tied together at the top. My grandmother used coffee grounds in her plants, just a little ,not too much. Hope this helps! :-)
Kyle
Kyle, just lucky I guess. We love it here, but gardening is a challenge what with salt air, heavy rain and lots and lots of wind. But, I'm not doing too bad. So your pansies did okay with the bigger pots? I've got everything ready to do this, but wanted another opinion before I shocked my poor baby. It's really hard to get plants out here, so when I do.....I really baby them.
Shari,
Go ahead and move your P. Lady Margaret into a pot large enough to accomodate your tellis. This passionflower is known for being being easy to grow and tolerant of a wide variety of conditions. And it blooms and blooms and blooms. If, despite your best efforts, you lose it, I would be more than happy to send you another.
Please make sure to post pictures. I can't even begin to imagine what gardening where you are is like. But I would sure be willing to give it a try!
Regards,
Erick
Thanks guys! I repotted my baby LM, so we'll see if she likes it here. I'll post pics if and when (no negative waves!) I get a bloom.
:-)
Shari,
Should you have the time, please post a few pictures of plants growing outdoors where you live, even if not in bloom. It would be interesting to see just what grows there. Do you have fruit trees of any kind, e.g. mango, papaya, etc.? Are there any flowering plants edenmic to your area that you could share pictures of?
Regards,
Erick
Erick - oh my, you just don't know what you are asking! But - if you are really interested, my husband has an album on Webshots that is just plants and flowers from the island. Go to www.webshots.com, click on community and search for islanddood. Many DG'ers have gone there to see his picks......but please leave a comment. He always checks, and so many folks don't. It depresses him when they don't. Have fun, and let me know what you think!
