I'm just wondering. I planted some lily bulbs about 3 weeks ago. I know that alot of bulbs are planted in the fall. The bulbs have to establish a new root system and become use to their new home I understand but I was wondering how long do new bulbs take before they show above ground growth?
I included some bone meal and a bit of 10-10-10 time release fert. also.
Thanks, chuck
Bulb planting
I'm no expert but I would think they would start poking through anytime. Probably the moisture and soil temperature should spur them on.
Sometimes lilies sprout very quickly and sometimes they take a while, so be patient. I have even had lilies not show up the first year and show up the 2nd with blooms. Marking the spot well is a good idea (which I'm terrible for not doing, lol).
Did you water them in when you planted? It settles the soil around the bulb and stimulates growth. I agree, though, that they should start showing up anytime. Bring in New England, the soil temperatures have still been cool. Give them some time. Spring planted bulbs will probably be a bit shorter than normal and bloom later than normal the first year, but they extend the bloom season!
