Controlling Clover..

Yakima, WA(Zone 6b)

Hi. I am new to not only this site but gardening as a whole. My husband and I purchased our first home 11/05. I didn't really garden at all last year just kind of let everything grow to see what I had. I am starting out with a variety of bulbs purchased from breck's. So far so good, I was told I couldn't really go wrong with them. I have a lot of unique looking things coming up, but clover growing all throughout where I don't need it. Is there a way I can kill it off chemically without killing my newly sprouting bulbs? I don't mind it so much in the yard but it is becoming a hassle to stay on top of in the garden.

Fraggilicious, I didn't realize you're in/near Yakima. If you want a few to several cuttings from our Austree .... just send me a Dave's Garden D-Mail. Kelly

Fragglicious, welcome to DG and even more so to gardening!! Sorry about the clover - it can be a bugger. You might be able to very carefully spray just the clover with Roundup (as long as there's no wind) and start to get a handle on it - then just keep weeding it out every chance you get.

Good luck!

Fragglicious, There are specific weed and feeds from makers like Scotts and others that work well to kill clovers of most varieties. You can find them at all garden stores. The 20# bags cost about $10. Most in-town lawns can be fully covered with 2 bags. $20 beats the heck outa pulling them out by hand. Godd luck and welcome t o Daves Garden. You'llbe exposed to hundreds of of terrific ideas for improving your garden and improve your gardening skills. Kelly in Moxee
