Happy Mother's Day!

Just wanted to wish all the moms and grandmothers here a very Happy Mother's Day!

I wanted to share a favorite story with all of you .....

I work at a school as a teacher assistant for students with special needs. So ..... I have a different take on what being a mother is. Sometimes we are not only mothers to our own children but mothers to other children as well. This is one of my all time favorite stories. I hope you enjoy it!

I am thinking of the Mr. Rogers song......

It's a beautiful day in the garden ..... :-)

My dh surprise me with a coffee colada and a large pot (no holes in the bottom) for one of my water lotuses. The poor plant was growing out of the pathetic little pot I had it in. I will be getting together later this morning with my oldest son (along with my other 2 children), my mom, and my dh's mom to go out to eat, hang out at my son's new home to enjoy the company of family. And then it's home to putter in the garden! LOL! Whoo hoo!

Got up this morning and went outside. What a lovely morning! Nice way to start Mother's Day off! I am just sooooooo tickled with all the FLOWERS in my yard! This is truly a dream for me! (I've wanted a flower garden for 30+ years. No kidding!) I now "HAVE" a flower garden!!!! Can you see me smilin'???!!! It's so pretty!!!! I just want to spend the WHOLE day out there!!!

Deb - I just gotta tell ya ..... I LOVE your new backyard garden. That is how I want mine to look eventually. LUSH with paths everywhere and lots and lots of blooming garden beds everywhere! EVERYWHERE!!! Ya got it going on there, girlfriend!!! As does Cat! And I still want to see more of what Roxanne and others here have as well. Y'all ROCK the treetops!

Here's a photo of the amazing RED blooms in my garden this morning! Someone tell me what cats/butterflies use canna as a host plant, please! :-) I know the hummers are supposed to like the nectar. (Fingers crossed!!)

Wishing y'all a wonderful and relaxing day! :-) :-)

DH just got our 2 boys and himself brand new dirtbikes. We went to DS's and Mom's house in Justin. Ben of course saw a bug we don't see much around here. a Cow Killer Ant, aka Velvet Ant. They had Hackberry Emperors all over the place. We had a great dinner, and a great time.. DS got me 8 botanical shower gels. how sweet! Kids had a blast! Poor DH has been through the ringer using parts he didn't know he had. aww! Ben's bike is a tiny lil yamaha50, he looks so big on it!

DS Ben standing with his nephew, (my DGS) on the bike. they took turns. DGS was beside himself having so much fun. Me so nervous..lol! They were very good drivers actually.

Well, Mother's Day is officially OVER! Bummer! lol

I had a very nice day and even got some gardening done before dark! I almost have all the garden beds in the bogless garden done. Two more to go! I will be so glad to have it finished. My back is killing me tonight. I'm so tired of messing with them. I just want them done so I only have to maintain the gardens. Lugging 40 lbs. of soil and compost around gets really old ... fast!

One funny thing I saw out in the garden today...... actually I've seen it happen several times before ...... but saw it again today so thought I'd share......

Ya know my looney squirrels come to visit the feeder several times a day. When I go in and out of the backdoor to the yard, they have to constantly retreat up the fence (they figured out to use the trellis as a ladder!) and up into the trees in the lot behind me. Then they sit up there glaring at me and waiting for me to leave. The birds perch in the trees too and the 2 mice head for my garden beds and out the back crack in the fence. Everyone retreats when I appear! This goes on all day long when I am home on weekends. I go out, they make a mad dash from me. I go in, they all come back. On and on.....

Well .... the squirrels, it appears, are getting tired of trying to figure out a way down the fence. It's much easier for them to climb UP the trellis instead of DOWN the trellis. It takes too much time for them to scurry across the powerlines and down the fence the way they used to do it. So ..... I have been watching them this past week and they've come up with a new plan.....

The garden beds bordering the entire backyard are 4 ft. deep. Several times now I've caught the squirrels literally leaping off the fence cowabunga style. They have their arms and legs outstretched like a skydiver jumping from a plane. It's a hoot to watch!!! That way they can scramble to the food quickly and eat. I think they've figured out my timing of going in and out of the house. So they leap off the fence, hit the ground running, dash over to eat, and then high tail it back up the fence when I come back outside. LOL! And the cardinals fly back and forth to their feeder using the same timing as the squirrels. I think they are tag-teaming it! LOL!

They are all so darn smart! And ..... entertaining!!!! Never a dull moment with the critters around. My cat sits up on top of our grill on our back porch and looks like he's smiling at all this action! Makes me laugh to observe all these personalities! I think it's funny to see the smirk on the cat's face. ROFL!

Awwwww ..... life is good! :-)
