Ken,
Do you happen to recollect precisely where you found this cactus growing in Arizona? Or near what city or landmark, etc.?
It seems to be extraordinarilly heavily armed for E. triglochidiatus v. triglochidiatus.
It reminds me of Echinocereus engelmannii var. acicularis,

OR maybe even Echinocereus nicholii

Xeno, my records say that I photographed it near Black Canyon City, Arizona on 15th July 1998. I hope that helps to resolve its identity,

That puts it in Yavapai County, which would make it Echinocereus engelmannii var. acicularis according to the USDA site and the general look of it. (length of spines, etc)

I only can second Xeno this time. It's definitely an Echinocereus engelmannii or a variety of it.

Thank you both. I have asked admin to move the image to the Echinocereus engelmannii var. acicularis page
