Mona Lavender

Does anyone grow this? I wanted to get one for a container I'm making. The plant files says its light to full shade but at HGC they have it in full sun and it doesn't look like its dying. Sometimes HGC is as bad as Wal-Mart the way they treat their plants. The other plants I wanted to put in the container are full sun so I thought this was a good match but after seeing the plant files just wanted to know what peoples experieinces were in the Texas climate. Any input is appreciated.

I kept one in a container for a few years. It is pretty and my favorite color. I did keep the container in high shade. Someone on DG said full sun anywhere else is not full sun in the south.

I think at the garden centers, they are banking on it being in sun/heat short term and really don't care. I have seen the GCs quickly discard an assortment of plants that were mistreated.

Also right now, it won't be as critical as later summer. Don't think Mona would like the August sun. Just my opinion... pod

I would advise that you not place them in full sun. Mine are in partial sun (early morning sun, afternoon filtered shade) and filtered shade. I have heard somewhere that someone has grown them in full sun in Texas. But, I have also heard that they can develop some leaf burn during the hottest part of the summer. They are frost tender and I have lost a couple during freezes when I did not protect them. Hopefully, someone will come along that has grown them in full sun to give us more information.

I had one that lasted quite a while in full sun, but finally gave up the ghost. I'm going to replant some of them, but in a partially shaded area. I think morning sun would be ideal, but I think any location that avoided full sun during mid day would work.

Thanks for all your comments. I think I will have to rethink my container. Either plant some other companion plants or find another focal point. Thanks!
