As far as I can tell I am the first person ever in the City of Chicago to have a Trachy in the ground to flower.

Well milebrun sorry I didnt respond last summer lol. Well its spring time and its blooming again.
When I put them in the ground they were a f ew years old already. Seedling dont recover from cold like an adult can. For protection in the winter I keep it 100% dry. I cover it with a plastic cold frame. No heat really but from a halogen work light. This year was very very bad and all of the leaves burned off both trachys. But they have a great healthy root system and have bloomed very strong and are growing leaves back fast!! I will have many seeds this winter. My female is a very big slightly curved T. Fortunei with stiff leaves.

Huntley, IL

Hi imcuban2,

I'm also in Chicago land specifically in Huntley. Can you please share to me how you are winter protecting your Trachycarpus fortunei? Also, how are you going to protect it when they become tall?

Thanks,

Neil
