I found this little pot of whatever ... i think its from the Arlington Coop. I have been watcing it for the longest and its getting more and more interesting.
Any Idea of what this is...if anything?
I have no idea, but I'm watchin' to find out.:)
Looks like a climber to me .
Too big to be an Ivy .
Might be in the Philodendron family .
ITS LOVELY LEAF Ginger you maybe right . i want to know to.lol.
tommorrow I will take a pic of the entire pot ... it has 4.99 on it... maybe someone will recognize it. This pot has been here for a while, probaly from last october. When my friends started watering everything in January or later it must have come up in the pot. :)
It looks a little like my bleeding heart. I don't have flpwers yet so I'm no positive on the cultivar but thats kind of what the foliage looks like, only mine is a darker green.
I'm anxious to know what your plant is too. It is so pretty. Even if it doesn't flower. I love the shape of the leaves.
... me too Dancy! I am just waiting for somwone to yell at me ... saying Sylvia I gave you that ... dont you remember. this always happens to me at the Arlington Swap. :)
It looks like it might be a Thunbergia...ask over on the Vines and Climber Forum.
The leaf shape and texture reminds me of the tater vine or air potato ~ Dioscorea bulbifera http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/8597/ but not quite... I think the pair of side leaves are what throws me. Was it potted or a tuber that you potted?
Pod it was potted but not by me. Those air potatoes ... someone gave me two of them at the CSRU. I put them in a pot ... again I had no idea what they are ,,, Would this be something that would grow wild and attach to everything ...if so I know exactly where to plant it. :)
If it is an air potato, they really don't have suckers to attach but will climb a fence or trellis by twining around it ~ thigmotropism I believe Felder Rushing called it.
It has little blooms and will produce more taters. If left on the vine, they will drop to the ground and root for next year. Around this area, they let the first frost kill the vine. Then you can pick the taters and share or replant. It can also be grown in a larger pot.
Mine in this soil have never really taken over though some folks consider them a bit aggressive. I never have to replant either, they come back from the tubers.
Do you think that is what these might be?
Sylvia ~ Seeing the stems, I will say no, it doesn't look like the vine I was thinking of, sorry. I will watch to see if you find an ID.. Good luck.
Sylvia, after looking at the stems and seeing the leaves in the second pic, I wonder if it is a Four O'clock?

It might be Sheila ... i am goitng to ask Dawn
Pod ... off subject... that is Air Potatoes I have .. I just called Smockett and they came off her vine ...She says they will definitely cover my fence. All I need now is some Hyacinth beans to finish tearing the fence down. lol
Ya want some? I could accomodate you... : ))
Another vine that takes a sturdy support would be the sword bean vine. I planted six seeds last year and passed out all but six of my extra seed this year. They are monsters and take a sturdy support. http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/viewentry/111087/
A favorite of mine is the cinnamon vine ~ it is like the air potato but is miniature. Think it is called a cinnamon vine as the bloom is supposed to smell like it. I have never seen or smelled a bloom but these guys are tiny and I grow them in a window box on the ground beside the fence. They look like a small version of the tater vine. http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/viewentry/110266/ If these tiny tubers root in the ground, you can easily pluck them out and repot.
I wanted to add, the foliage on your ? plant doesn't look quite right for my 4 o'clocks either.
Not much telling what Sylvia has in some of her pots. LOL!! After we moved her whole yard while she was in the hospital last year, it is a wonder anything is coming back! LOL!
I know thats right! lol! Sheila I still have five or six NOID'S out there. you know I will take anything someone gives me and I plant them too. Sure would like to go over to the old place and see what coming up. ... all thos clematis I planted, niobe, jackmani ... and that Lady Banks shooting over the fence into the neighbors courtyard! and the Trumpet vines everywhere ... omg ... tis scary when I think of it.
Pod i will take some of you Cinnimon seeds.... what it is you guys, I got this ugly ugly fence to hide so i am trying to create a Woodland garden. Smockette is at the house now ... with all those trees and stuff... I sent a man over there to help her get it off the truck...no telling what she is up to! lol
Sylvia@work
Sylvia@work ~ I think I saw some "mini cinni taters" the other day when I was rummaging for seeds. I get to looking thru the seeds and get distracted forgetting what I was looking for. Anyway, I will dig them out. If you will dmail your new address, I think you moved since the walking iris. PLMK ~ pod
