Goodbye Bubba

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Sadly, Hubby and I had to say our final farewell to Bubba, our beloved ol' redbone hound dog, this morning. Last night when hubby went out to give him his meds, he went off into the woods. He didn't think too much about it since Bubba did that often as he always hated having to take meds. But this time he didn't come back. We went out looking for him all the way up till 11 p.m. I went out early this morning and walked all through the woods but couldn't find him. Finally, my dog, Lakota, showed me where he was. He had sneaked back and crawled into an old doghouse by the shop. We had to take the roof off to get him out. We've been treating him for congestive heart failure for about a year now and knew this time was coming, but still, you never want the time to get here. We had just talked to his vet last week and he had given us some medicine to sedate him with when we felt it was time to bring him in (he always got upset at being taken to the vet, to the point that he always threw up). Hubby gave him the pills and we took him in. Fortunately, the pills put him in such a netherworld he didn't know what was going on. At least he's at peace now. But there will be such a huge hole in our lives where he once lived. This is a sad post but I'm grateful to be able to share this with others--it helps in the healing process. Thanks to all who "listen."
