Hi,
I have several crepe myrtles, Tuscarora variety, (young ones planted last fall) that started to leaf out in April during a the warm spell. When the cold snap hit on Easter wkend, all the tender new leaves turned black.
I noticed that now around my area most of the crepes have started to leaf out again. Mine however, are sending up new shoots from the bottom, but the existing wood, has no new growth and seems dead. Could the cold snap have actually killed the woody parts too?
What should I do? I have been cutting off the new lower shoots as I really want a tree form rather than a large shrub.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Crepe myrtle help please!!
STOP! stop cutting until you get advice. I would hate for it to spend all its energy putting those out and lose them. If that top is all dead, this may be the best you get. Eventually you could get back to tree form. But I have limited knowledge here, just what I think I know : ^ )
If not this forum, try Tree and Shrub. Good Luck!
