I planted two Hardy Hibiscus last fall (cause I got them on sale) and I have read several people saying that they are late to come up. How late is this? I am in the Vancouver, Washington USA and have never grown this plant before. Can someone inlighten me? Thanks.
Hardy Hibiscus
Well, it depends on which one you have. The shrub Hibiscus siriacus is a shrub that is late to leaf out. The perennial Hibiscus like H. 'Lord Baltimore' are late to start growing. If you positioned them in the hottest spot, you should see something shortly.
boyzmom, I too planted the 5 of the hardier varieties of hibiscus last spring and most were successful through the winter (I hope). Lord Baltimore was one. My Syriacus variety was a Lavendar double blossom. I am certain it is okay. The ones I worry about are the ones that have yet to surface. The Lavendar Syriacus didn't even need to be pruned it was so woody. The others were from 2 inch sprouts and my feelings are most are dead. 1/5 is a lousy track record. Kelly
Thanks Growin, These are Tropical-Hardy Hibiscus "Angelique" Perennial. They are in a spot that gets good sun, but we haven't had a lot of that around here lately, just mostly rain.
I am just wondering how long I should wait before giving up on them and replanting?
