Labelling waterlilies

Arcata, CA(Zone 9b)

I would like to know what type of labels you are using on your water lilies? This year when they stop blooming I want to repot/separate my lilies. I have white, red (several named), yellow, pink and a peach. (blue that is a tropical - not doing to well - not hot enough here)One of my red I can see coming out of its 5 gallon container. It must have 5 plants in that one container. Do you use a pencil to make the color? Thanks

I use a wax pencil....the permanent markers end up not being so permanent.....I have also seen copper or aluminum tags, so you dent the metal, which is very light weight, with a ball point pen...the ink doesn't stick but the writing dents it so it's permanent.

You mean you guys keep track of what you have? Never thought of that. ;>)

I use mini blind slats cut up with a permanent marker. If you mark the slat in several places and then make sure it is into the soil you can still read when you divide. The part sticking out of the dirt will fade. Not fancy but at least you can identify them when you need to know and readily avialible cheaply.

What I am going to do (I really will this time, I swear! LOL) is get some light colored pots and mark them on the side of the pot with the wax pencil. I think they make yellow if I can't find any light colored pots. If you do it that way there are no tags to lose when you are fertilizing or if the fish decide to do some home renovations.

Oh, definitely a grease pencil. I've tried all the Sharpies but
find the grease pencil gets my vote for long term labeling.

HMMMMMMMMMM, how about a paint pen. I have used one for 2 yrs. I can still see the names as if I just wrote them :)
