I'll be the one to ask the dumb question (yeah, yeah... I know, there are no dumb questions... but I always feel dumb when I ask them) What exactly is the difference between a chimera and an african violet? Isn't a chimera an AV?

Yes, a chimera is an African Violet, but it's "special" in that it has sported (changed) genetically in the way the flowers bloom or even the leaves.
They typically sell for more money & can be a little harder to propagate. They can only be duplicated from a crown cutting,blossom stem or offset. They will NOT come true from a leaf like other av's.
The flowers are usually stripped in some form.
