cutting needs help

Chesapeake, VA(Zone 7b)

I rec'd a cutting from a David Liddle order that isn't doing so well. It is H Odorata. It is a long straight "stiff"cutting. You know how most are flixible? Anyway, every other cutting I have rec'd has rooted or is bouncing back from the trip here nicely. This one cuttings just isn't it doing well. I have it in a jar of water with a little bit of ST now. Evidently, this one needs to be treated differently. Any suggestions? This cutting is long. I would guess and say everybit of 12" or more. It doesn't seem to have "nodes" like all the other cuttings I have gotten. Not sure how to treat this one at all.
Thanks,

It is a tricky hoya to root sometimes, Dawn. I would cut it down to cuttings of 2 nodes each, and put them, bottom node into the lightest mix...with lots of perlite. Use the 'greenhouse out of a plastic bag' trick to keep moisture up. If you have a vine of new growth, leafless, cut it off.

Thank you Carol. I will cut it up tonight when I get home. I will assume you mean to put a bag over the cutting in the perlite mix and try rooting that way? Will give that a try.
Thnk you again

Dawn, I agree with Carol-that's how I got mine to root - and what I did was put the whole pot into a large, clear plastic bag and close it with a twist tie. Then open the bag every day, spritz it, pour any excess water out, and close the bag up again. I did this for three weeks and then opened the bag slowly over a few days to get the plant used to air that's no so densely moist.

And yes, they don't twine, but grow completely straight. A strange grower for sure. Good luck!!

I do the same thing with my bigger cuttings but I poke a few small holes in the plastic bag to give the plant some air. Does anyone else do that?
