Butterfly Weed question...

Spring, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi folks...I posted a "dummy" question on the Beginner Gardening forum about issues I'm having with my Butterfly Weed...

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/718913/

I was hoping that one of you who were familiar with it in the Houston area could tell me what I did wrong with this plant or if it's done blooming for the year?

I know that you plant it often for the butterflies and humming birds, so I figured you would be experts on the subject...

Thanks!

Abl....that mw will continue to grow and flower and seed...all summer. You can let the seeds fly away or collect them. They will come up in different places on their own, and you can then transplant them or leave them. Don't wait too long to transplant, they have a tap root which makes it difficult.

Yayy! That's great news, thanks!
I will plant it this weekend...

Can it take full sun? Or does it prefer a bit of a shady area?

I have them in both but they look the best in full sun.

I hope you get lots of Monarchs!

Me too, thank you...
All the stuff I bought for our new beds/garden is supposed to be attractive to HBirds and BFs, so we'll see!

We already had a TON of hummingbirds last summer and I had NOTHING planted yet...At any given time, we'd have 12 to 15 buzzing around our patio, fighting for the feeders...It was very entertaining to watch...

Thanks for your help, fly_girl! Stay dry this afternoon when the storms come again - round two!

Haha Adrienne...so true!

You're welcome abl! You stay dry too.....or get a raft lol Too much rain!

There's another thread about pics of your garden........please post! Love to see them!

Thank you both...
You're right, I have learned SO MUCH from the DG boards...I really couldn't have started my first garden without you folks...I have a huge binder full of Plant Files print-outs of everything I've bought and everything that I still want...

I now can identify plants at the nurseries when just 2-3 months ago, I had never even TOUCHED a bit of garden soil or ever have even grown a single plant of my own...It's pretty addictive as a hobby, how did I ever live without a garden?

My goal is to one day be able to answer a question for another newbie down the road...

re: pics - maybe I'll have the confidence to post some stuff soon
:)

I'm hooked on container gardening right now, because it seems less scary for some reason?

Also I already have a ton of experience with creating arrangements (of the "fake" variety anyway)...

Thank you all!
