Fragrance in our part of the world?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Osmanthus fragrans, tea olive, does any one here, PNW, grow this? I am looking for fragrance and this is suggested over @ the Fragrant Garden forum. Also, Wallflower? I have a whole list but most of them are not my zone. Or do any of you have good scents in your pots to bring in after summer?

Sorry to be following you around Mary, but if scent you want, you should try all kinds of daphne. I have a couple of small hedges of them and one in particular is down the driveway and they have just been smelling awesome. And the Exbury azaleas are starting and on a warm day they are just delicious too. Carnations can be grown in the garden and Sweet Williams and they are wonderful pickers too. Of course there are some really wonderful fragrant roses. And lilacs again.

Hi there - I grow several types of Osmanthus - all successful here for the past 22 years. They do quite well as long as they have lots of sun & good drainage.
If you want fragrant shrubs - try these too (listed in order of bloom time for zone 7):
Sarcacocca
Osmanthus
Daphne odora
Viburnum carlesii
Choisya
Lilacs
This ranges from February through May or June for me.
This pic is Osmanthus burkwoodii - it was loaded with flowers, as were its brothers.
Hope this helps! K
(I don't have a picture of O. fragrans this year...)

Lily of the Valley, violets, among the small flowers, lavender, phlox and oriental lilies are just a few flowers that have wonderful scents that waft through your garden as you work. All grow well in my Surrey, B.C. Canada garden.
