What about elephant ears? Some are suitable for water.

i had a dg member dmail me that have the water hyacinths. thanks everyone.

i just have planted a elephant ear near my pond. it is doing pretty good right now. what is your experience with these?

Kelly,

I grow lots of them - I probably have 15 or so varieties right now, but not all of them are for trade.

I don't have a pond - I grow mine in soil, and feed them a steady diet of water - and I keep reading how they're suitable for bogs and ponds. Several of them will grow in standing water.

If you go to the PlantFiles page, and enter 'colocasia' in the Genus field, you can see several varieties. Then enter 'alocasia', and finally 'xanthosoma' - elephant ears fall under one of these three categories.

Let me know if you're interested, and I'll tell you what I have available to trade.

Steve
